Would you believe a modern day Prophet?

Isn't smoking like a slow form of suicide, I thought suicide was a sin, and Jesus never sinned, from what I read.

I agree...also God tells us that we are to treat our bodies as temples. Smoking desecrates the temple...therefore God or the son of God would not desecrate the temple.

I have to agree, I just don't see Jesus smoking Winstons. I do believe that when Jesus does return, it's not going to be somebody obvious. Remember, God chose Mary and Joseph, very simple unassuming people to be the parents of His only Son. Jesus was a carpenter up until the last three years of His life. And of course, many people did not acknowledge Him for who He was, and He was called crazy. But I think in looking at His messages, we would all be in better shape if we listened to what He tried to teach. These so called "prophets" of modern times teach murder and mass suicide. The main message that I always got from the teachings of Jesus was life and love.

I would.

One has to keep faith on their beliefs or this world will tear one apart! Am I gonna think the messiah is back because some twit says he is... no.. I'm goofy not stupid. I believe when Jesus comes back the ones who have unwavering faith in him and God will know without a doubt. I just hope he does not descend and see what we have done to each other and to this once beautiful planet and deem none of us are worth to be blessed with his grace and he pushes the up button and we never seem him again. Makes one wonder if that already hasn't happen. Huh

As for the crack pots who think they are... first I say clean them up (usually shower first) get them off drugs or alcohol, send them to the nearest shrink (I think if Jesus came back in the flesh people would have him committed as well.. sad) and after that is done give them a good whack in the back of the head and see if they still think the are Jesus. Most being clean sober off drugs or on the right type will know they are not. Just because someone is a good public speaker does not make one God or what not it just deems one as being able to blow alot of hot air and people buy it.

But that is just my opinion.. Flower Child

Keep in mind the Antichrist will come as a modern day prophet. Even those of us who have been taught to look for that person may not see it. I would have to question ANYONE who comes in the name of the Lord. I will rely on my faith in God, because there is someone very evil coming. There is also One who will come in His Name. I agree with Shastar that those of us who have a strong faith in God will know in our hearts who the true One is. My first clue will be the one with the easy answers and the quickest results is the red flag. None of this will be easy and anyone who says it can be needs to be avoided. And of course this is only my opinion.

Personally....this is my understanding...if I'm wrong please correct me. I do not claim at all to be very fluent when it comes to the bible.

I thought that when Jesus actually comes back that every soul on Earth would see him and that Christians would disappear instantly. This alone would prove the beginning of the end...then the great 7 year tribulation would begin. Am I correct? Anyone claiming to be Christ when this does not happen is according to the Bible not Christ.

You're talking about the rapture, where the dead in Christ shall rise first then those that are living that are right with God are supposed to just disappear, pretty much like it was portrayed in the movie, "Left Behind" Then there is to be a battle which Satan ultimately loses and is bound for a thousand years. This is to be a time of peace, and the ones that were left behind in the original Rapture and were able to resist Satan's temptations will be right with God. Then, Satan will be let loose for one last hurrah to try and corrupt as many more souls as he can, and then he is defeated again, and peace will reign eternal. This is what I was taught. When I read the Book of Revelation in the Bible, it is hard for me to get around all of the metaphors. I know that many people believe that the fall of Babylon is the war in Iraq. Iraq is about 50 miles from the original city of Babylon. Many also believe the United States is the new Babylon, and the September 11 tragedies were the beginning of the end. Anyway, that is the story I was always taught, and I hope it is helpful.

I have a small problem with the ‘Rapture,’ not all of God’s people will be carried away for protection. We have the martyrdom of the Saints at this time; if you placed your hope in the Rapture, you might well be disappointed. At Christ’s return, the dead in Christ rises from their graves and the ones still living will change in a twinkling of an eye and rise into the air to meet Christ. Christ will have a host of angels with him. Then they return to the Earth and the battle with Satan and his demon is on. Every eye will see this.
Also, and note this, this raising of the dead in Christ and the changing of the ones still living happens at the end of the Tribulation, not the beginning! When Christ appears in the heaven with His angels, He battles Satan in the air, He then touches down on the MT of Olives, he stays on Earth to ushers in the thousand years of peace. At the beginning of the Tribulation, we have the false prophet and the anti-Christ and people will be fooled by him/them, then seven years of trials and troubles. You would not begin a time of peace with seven years of woe.
I do think some of God’s people will be protected but divinely so and in the midst of the chaos. I don’t see where the people are carried away for 7 years. I cannot find. If you know where it said this, please point it out to me. There is an order of these events and they are too long to list here but they must be taken in order or you will be deceived.
Read Mathew chapter 25 and Revelation, almost the entire book.

I am not sure about the tribulation lasting 7 years either. I knew the Rapture story that I was taught in church years ago. Thank you for the reference to Matthew chapter 25 because that was a little easier to understand. The dead rising does happen after the tribulation. I also think that when times are given in the Bible, there are discrepencies that can only be explained in God's timetable is different then here on earth. I do know that there are no easy answers, and having faith requires the belief in things that you cannot see or prove.

Rev. 12:14 quotes 'a time and times and half a time,' which is usually interpreted to mean 3 and 1/2 years. I can't understand where the 7 comes from either, unless they are doubling the time frame. But it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility because it seem just yesterday that 9/11 happened and we have been at war the whole time. We are still at war. It has lasted longer than both world wars put together. The only different is it is not as wide spread or as visible as the Worlds Wars were. But understand, it is a global battle we are frighting.

Thanks. I was also going by what I was taught instead of reading the Bible about it myself. I am currently reading the Bible from beginning to end. I've always used the Bible....but only in this manner: I would pray about what God wanted me to know...then I would close my eyes and open the Bible and read whatever it was that God intended for me at that moment. I have always believed and loved God with all my heart but I've been well versed. I will definately research the tribulation more now.
