my three experiences

My first and second experiences both took place at my grandparents house located in Harford County, Maryland. I lived with my grandparents at this time. I will try to explain as best as possible seeing as how it happened a while ago.

My grandparents were sitting on the couch and I was sitting on the floor in the living room. We were watching TV. Behind the couch was a door the leads to the back porch. The door has a window which you can see through but the door is sealed shut. I can't remember what time it was, but I think it was early evening. All of a sudden we hear a knock coming from the sealed door. All of us look at the door but no one is there. About five minutes later we get a call saying that a family member has died at the exact time we heard the knocks. I have never been able to explain this. Could it just have been a coincidence or something else?

As for the second experience. This took place up stairs where I slept. The upstairs has two room, and another set of steps leading to the attic. This set of steps has a door. I was scared of the dark at the time so my grandparents always kept the upstairs hall light on for me. I also kept my "big bear" in front of my door which was open to keep guard. As I was laying there, I heard the downstairs door open and close. I figured it was my grandfather coming to check on me. I heard the footsteps come walking up but didn't expect to see what I saw. I saw a shadow figure walk from the steps, stare at me for a couple seconds and walk through the door to the attic. This happened a few more times until it just stopped one day.

The third and most recent time happened while I was on an investigation with a group I used to be a member of. We was at Henryton Sanitarium in Howard County, Maryland. Me and two other people were in a small building on the lower floor. We was talking when all of a sudden we heard a loud bang coming from the room directly above us. We ran up the stairs(I nearly lost my leg because one of the steps gave way) to find nothing that could have caused it. I sent the other two people downstairs and I made a bunch of motions to try and copy that sound. Turns out I had to jump really hard on one spot of the floor to copy the sound. Still can't figure out how it happened.

RE: my three experiences
cbpjamesw, thank you for sharing your experiences. The first one was especially compelling, because of the timing. When something like that happens, it is hard to chalk it up to coincidence, even if that's what it was. I won't claim to know what happened, but I do agree it seems strange you would hear those knocks so soon before you got the news.

The second experience I would have to consider the possibility of hypnogogic hallucination. Even before we are actually asleep, the body is in the process of shutting down just by laying there and preparing for it. It's not uncommon for hallucinations to occur in this state that make us take notice and it feels very real. Now keep in mind, that is just a suggestion to consider.

I wasn't at the spot where the third experience happened, but I know that sounds of banging can have many different sources. I do like that you attempted to debunk it by recreating the sound, even if it didn't give you an answer as to what caused it.

Again, thank you for sharing your experiences here. Hope to hear more about them!

RE: my three experiences
I too, agree with Scarygirl about your second experience possibly being hypnogogic hallucination. The only reason being, is that you mentioned it all of the sudden just stopped one day. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
