RE: Empathic
That was such a nice thing to read Dax! And maybe sometimes we aren't supposed to shield all of those feelings. After all, those weren't sad tears, they were tears of being overwhelmed. I can almost see the things you describe, and it is really touching when you think of all those little kids being excited over the growth of their pet.
On a deeper level, it reminds us all of how we should take pleasure in those simple things in life. Honestly Dax, this experience made my day! Thank you for sharing it with us. "When you feel like a toad on the highway of life... and everyone seems like a steel-belted radial... when you're lyin' there squished in an assortment of bodily fluids... at least you left your mark." ~Arnie Dogan, "The Red Green Show" |

RE: Empathic
I was talking to a friend last night until 4am and he was telling me all about his abused childhood and I was in tears listening to him, I felt really hurt that someone would go through this and still come out at the other end a great person. What i'm getting at is that I learned from listening to him and feeling his pain, I learned that no matter how bad I think my life is, it's true what they say "There's always someone else worse off than yourself". I know don't feel so bad about my life, I feel lucky to have the life I have. Just remember to stop and take note of your empathic experiences and see what you can learn from them. RE: Empathic
Thank you both for the inputs. Scarygirl, you are right we shouldn't shield all the time. Sometimes I forget that. Even though I have come a long way, I still at times need to spend a good amount of time alone to purge other people's emotions from my own. But at the same time I shouldn't shield as much. I will continue to work on this, and will learn from it. SweetyStacey, I agree with you, we can learn a lot from someone just by feeling their emotions as well as listening to them. I have some idea of what it's like to listen to other people although I have never listened to anyone talk about there abused childhood. When it comes to my friends and family I always try and offer my support and listen to them, a lot of the time I will do my best to keep the “peace” sometimes it's harder then others but it is a learning experiencing. But after awhile as I mentioned before I have to get away from everyone to vent everything so it doesn't cripple me, I will continue to try my best to learn from these experiences

RE: Empathic
Pride and Fear always distort the truth into either a false sense of security or a lack of confidence and diminished self-worth.

RE: Empathic
I agree, it's truly a wonderful experience and heart breaking at the same time. I think if everyone payed attention to others emotions the world would be a lot different. I think ego, although necessary to an extent, causes a lot of damage.
