Choked by a demon...

Sponsor Messages
I had never believed in demons, or anything of that nature. I was going through a very stressful time in my life five years ago, and had all kinds of physical, and mental changes happening to me at that time.

I awoke suddenly in the night opening my eyes and feeling a large hand grip my neck and pin me down by my shoulders. At first I thought "sleep paralysis!" and I looked at the clock to see if I was lucid and try to wake myself up. It was 3:33am, and I felt awake. At this point I panicked and tried to get away, I kicked my feet and they flailed about, but I couldn't get up, because I felt a great weight on my shoulders too. The very large hand around my neck began to squeeze tighter the more I struggled. I could feel their fingers distinctively wrapping around my neck and I began to make choking sounds. I then heard the door begin to rattle and bang and make knocking sounds, and I heard the rattle of chains. I looked to my right to see if I could see through the glass door to see who was on the other side, and I saw no one.

Then I thought somebody must have broke in and was trying to kill me and I would die any second. I looked above my head to see who my killer was, and I saw as a struggled a very tall (about 7 or 8 ft tall) dark shadowy person wearing a cloak. I couldn't see eyes or features, but it was very large and wearing a black cloak just like the grim reaper. Once I saw this I decided the only thing to do was to tell it (with my mind, because I was choking) to get the heck off of me and I wouldn't let them do this to me, and to go away, and leave me alone. In a very firm way of course, because I thought it was trying to kill me.

Then suddenly, just as quickly as it's hand griped my neck, it's hand then let go and I took the deepest breath of air ever. The room went quiet, and the thing had gone. I was scared stiff. I didn't move about the house or get out of bed to inspect the other rooms because I was so scared. I just watched the clock in fear terrified that this thing would come back. And I watched the clock until 4:20 and then I feel asleep.

I figured it was sleep paralysis. I didn't think too much about it until now. It was 5 years ago, and It hasn't happened since. The thing is though that I still don't think I was asleep when this happened. I know it sounds like the typical sleep paralysis story, but it felt like much more than that.

And I didn't believe in demons so much that a month before this happened I tried to conjure up and evil demon (stupid idea I know) just to prove to myself that it didn't exist. But when I called on evil and darkness I found a black cloud starting to culminate in my room, and I immediately sent it packing and told myself, whether demons or evil is real or not, I was able to call together some negative energy, and I decided never to do anything that stupid again. At that same time I had also let a gypsy woman give me a "blessing" and I heard her use the words "deh-wu-la" while she had her hand on my forehead.

I would love to hear what you think. I have never talked about this online, or in person to anyone outside of my family. Thanks.Icontexto-emoticons-09-032x032

RE: Choked by a demon...
While it is possible that something was choking you, I am always reluctant to say it was a demon. I'm only saying this because most people who experience something unpleasant related to the paranormal tend to classify It as a demon. I think a number of these “bad experiences” people have can be related to a lack of understanding. I have had a few bad experiences that have frightened me but I wouldn't call them demons. Have I wondered if they were? Yes at times I have, but this is the result of the fear the experience had caused me. Fear can do a lot to a person in my opinion, weather it's short or long lived. However, I wouldn't recommend trying summon anything like that again. Also, it is always easier to get somethings attention then to loose it's attention.

Oh you are absolutely right! I never tried to summon anything since. It was a real eye opener for a skeptic. And if it wasn't a demon because demons are something that has been exemplified to me from my culture, and I kind of just lump all negative spirits with demons for lack of a better word and misunderstanding, then what was it, if not wasn't sleep paralysis? Let me rephrase that... What could it be? Just fear itself triggering my mind? I know fear is among the most harmful human emotions is a physiological way. Do you think it was responsible for the sense that I got that it was more than sleep paralysis possibly?

RE: Choked by a demon...
Is this the only negative experience, paranormally speaking, that you've experienced? I saw you mentioned on another post that you feel watched, and hear footsteps, has there been any other contact other than the sleeping incident? Because if so, then I'd say definately look into it furthur. You could have very well been experiencing hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis though, which occurs while falling asleep and your mind is still aware, but your body shuts down for REM sleep. Sleep paralysis oftentimes is accompanied with terrifying hallucinations and an acute sense of danger, and people can experience pressure or a sense of choking. Have people experienced symptoms & had it be paranormal? Of course, but usually it can be explained. You also mention that you were going through a very stressful time five years ago, and here are some causes for sleep paralysis:
*Sleeping in a face upwards or supine position
*Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in, sleep deprivation
*Increased stress
*Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
*A lucid dream that immediately precedes the episode.
*Excessive consumption of alcohol coupled with lack of adequate sleep.[14]

Oh yeah it, totally could have been due to stress. It had never happened again. And I had never experienced anything else paranormal like that. I see auras, and I've seen ufos. But nothing that creates fear. I do not see ghosts or hear things normally. I do get visions, but they are in my minds eye, not in the surrounding environment. I do have very vivid and at times lucid dreams. I've been through the wringer medically. There is nothing wrong with my eyes, or my brain that has been found thankfully...

As for the shadow creatures, and the feeling of being watched...It is not now, it was only in that house, and all people in the house experienced it. I do live by power lines, but I didn't at the time.

I know my experience sounded like a textbook sleep paralysis experience, but it felt like more. I do realize though that that is part of it too. It feeling real.

I am so sorry that happened to you, I don't have the answer to what it was. But I know that was so scary. I have had my share of scary things to. It is so nice to have this forum to talk it out. There are a lot of things in this ol world we can't explain. Stay safe, and as positive as possible.
Take care, your friend Melanie

It's typical that most of the paranormal activity happens around 02.00 -04.00 Am. I know how sleep paralyzes feels like, and it's not pleasant. The best way to conquer the fear is humor. I've read that demons hate humor and joy!

Take care

I could always use a bit more humour and joy. It definitely makes life more enjoyable for the people around me. It makes sense that someone negative wouldn't want to stick around for the positive stuff. Thanks.

RE: Choked by a demon...
Your experience matches some sleep paralysis experiences with hypnogogic hallucinations which included violent encounters with dark figures. I won't try to convince you one way or the other but I'll try to link to an interesting Youtube link with a doctor specializing in SP.
