I am curious, can dogs see spirits? I was recently thinking about past experiences, and one that I can find no explanation for popped into my head after I had forgotten about it. My dog, Noah, enjoys playing with his tennis ball a lot. Once you get him playing with it he won't let it out of his sight. One day, a few months ago, I was playing fetch with him around the house. Since he is a small dog, I just roll it around(I can't throw it in the house=P) and he goes after it, brings it back, and we go again. The two of us were in the spare room and I rolled it one last time, watched him retrieve it, then left him to play with it on his own. I went into the living room, leaving him in the spare room. As I walked away, I heard him thumping around as he always does, creating a game with himself. I sat down and the thumping stopped. I heard Noah whine a bit, as he often does, and thought nothing of it. He come into the living room, without his ball, which I found quite strange for him, because like I said, once you get him going he doesn't stop. I asked him where his ball was and he went into the spare room and returned once again with no ball. I stood up and went into the spare room, Noah close behind. I looked around and saw no ball. Finally, Noah went to a chair, one he couldn't reach the seat of, and stood on his hind legs. There on the seat of the chair was his tennis ball.

How could the tennis ball have gotten on the chair? I was rolling the ball, not throwing it. Noah couldn't even reach the seat to put it on there. Comments/Opinions?

It's my personal belief that both animals and children are very in-tune with the environment around them... I think they are much more open to things mentally than we as adults are.... As we grow, we tend to rationalise things (even when it seems we have managed to rule out every logical reason, we still doubt ourselves!)... but with animals and children, I feel they are very open-minded to it and can sense things that we can't.

I'd say it was possible that the dog might have had the ball in his mouth and dropped it onto the edge of the seat- but if if are really sure he can't reach that seat, what happened could be paranormal.

You should keep a note of what happened, see it if ever happens again!

Hmm, very true! I'm pretty sure that at the time he could not reach the seat of the chair, as he was a lot smaller than he is now, and he still isn't that big. Thanks for the thoughts!

My dogs will throw toys when playing with them. The little dog will shake items and let go, he also flips toys up in the air. Its amazing the distance he can get.

Hmm, that's a possibility. But, he was playing with a tennis ball. I would think if he did throw it and hit the chair I would have heard it and it would have rolled off, wouldn't it?

Well a tennis ball has padding, was the seat padded or solid? It would be an easy test to see (of course the dog couldn't be present.) Toss it by hand from next to it and see what noise it makes. You did say you heard thumping.

Now if you think its paranormal this would be a great opportunity to video the room to see if indeed the dog has a playmate.

The chair is solid wood, no padding. I did hear thumping, but I don't think it was loud enough to be him getting the ball on the chair. I will do that test in a few moments(Once Noah falls asleep=P) and see the sound.

If I were to video tape the room, when should I do it? During the day with Noah playing, without Noah playing or at night?

I would do it with Noah playing with his ball, if it is a spirit it was interacting with the dog.

Time? when ever the dog feels like playing.

Pfft, he always feels like playing, haha. I will do that, maybe sometime today.

Hopefully, because this experience was quite a while ago, something will still happen if it was something paranormal.
