RE: Rune Stones.
TrollDoll - Rune stones are a collection of 25 small stones, and on each stone is inscribed a symbol. Each stone represents something, in the way Tarot cards each have a meaning.

Rune stones can be used for decision-making, divination and communication, although I'm not too sure how they aid communication yet (I'm new to it!)

You can pick a stone for a situation... for example, I could hold the stones and say, "The subject I am concerned with is my current job," and then pick a stone, and the stone will have a meaning which hopefully will give advice/comments/decision making.

Some stones are beautiful, my husband just bought me a set.

Here is what a standard set look like:

Apparantly, according to a web site I was on recently, rune stones are the magical alphabet of North of central and Northern Europe...

thanks! i did a short search and did come up with that explanation. it said something to the effect that they were medival or celtic. it showed what different meanings were and i was surprized at how many there are! these were letters like s etc. so they are kind of like tarot cards. i'm not sure if they things work, but i would like to try it sometime. i have had my cards read, but by someone who was a beginner. i don't remember the results. i live in a small midwest town and i don't think there are too many that delve into divination. i'm sure i could find them on ebay. Blueoh
oh and fiona, is it possible to read them to yourself about yourself?

RE: Rune Stones.
I have a set but the Runes just don't call for me. My favorite is the pendulum Smile

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
(William Butler Yeats, "The Land of Heart's Desire," 1894)

RE: Rune Stones.
Trolldoll - I think you can read the stones to yourself about yourself... I think that's quite a common thing for Rune stones. At least thats what it says in the book I am currently reading about them. I have only used them on myself so far.

Maybe when I get more used to using them etc, I could do a fun reading for you over a PM because it says it's good practise and it says it doesn't matter how far apart you are from someone.. Just a fun thought! Big Grin

RE: Rune Stones.
OK kids, time for runemaster to speak his words (ekhem, sorry for my ego, no bad intentions here).

So, there are no 25 runes, there are only 24 - and those are not stones, those are symbols. The 25th "rune" called Wyrd is not a rune, it's a blank piece of material that never existed before it was introduced by some guy in 80s - he was alone in his theory about blank rune and no other runemaster ever supported him.

Now runes are not just divination tool. It's a complex high magick system, that is used for: divination, creation of talismans and amulets, casting different kinds of spells, performing dozens of rituals, meditation and lot more. Foretelling the future is just a tip of an iceberg. I've wrote a whole e-book about the symbology and magical practises (available on my website if you're interested).

Perceiving the runes only as divination symbols is a little bit of ignorance - therefore I really encourage everyone to read more about them (I write related blog posts quite often) and their use. When properly understood and used, they can change the life from misery to pure happiness (or vice versa, when used in wrong way).

RE: Rune Stones.
Nathan - Maybe my posts have displayed my ignorance on the subject of Runes but I did warn everyone that I only start using them about two weeks ago and have a lot to learn, I don't mind admitting. I DO hope that I'm more ignorant on the subject than any other beginner though....

I know most people use the 24 Runes instead of the blank 25th so I started to leave the blank one out of my readings.

I do know they can be used for a lot more than just divination but I am still reading up on the rest.

I have done my layouts and readings based on the book I am reading. SO far they seem pretty accurate.

Anyway you know a lot and it'd be great to learn more.... especially for me because I am fascinted by them and want to use them well....
LOL, I meant to say "I hope I am not more ignorant on the subject than othe beginners" NOT that I "hope I am more ignorant" lol.

RE: Rune Stones.
If someone felt being offended by my last post, I'm sorry - I didn't meant to offend anyone and I totally understand a lot of people here, especially you Fiona, are just beginners - so don't worry, I've read this whole topic and I know you're learning (good luck with this by the way!). Hmm, I need to use smiles more often Wink.

RE: Rune Stones.
Hey don't worry I wasn't offended at all.... In fact I'd love to learn more from you if you want to post here some info or PM me... I want to really explore Runes as much as possible as I'm so fascinated by them Smile

I have done some readings for fun with some people here and in my family and they seemed to find the readings accurate which is a good sign I hope!

RE: Rune Stones.
Nathan brought up a very important point: Runes are symbols first and foremost, and I know I for one use them a lot in spellcraft to help flesh out my intentions. I trace them on myself or even on paper before tests, etc., and I've found the technique to be very helpful and a great mental focus for me.

As to runes as divination tools, I'm a very, very big fan of using runes rather than other forms of divination. I find them easier to use, and they seem to just "click" for me in a way that things like tarot cards don't. I get better energy from them.
I'm a believer that what you're runes are made out of can play a part in how your readings go. My runes are made from sun stones, and I know many of the books I've come across actually recommend using chips of wood with the symbols carved on. So perhaps researching what the properties are of the stone (or wood) of a set you're considering buying might be a good idea, just to make sure you understand their energy and can identify well with it.

I am because I need to be.
