Looking for an opinion

When I was about 19 or so, my parents moved from Colorado to the Atlanta area, but I decided to stay in Colorado. The house they moved into is just a really creepy house, but I don't think it's all that old and I've never really looked into the history of it. It's just got a weird architectural layout and I'm always uncomfortable when I go there.

Anyway, I was staying there for a little bit and they setup a room for me upstairs. One night, I was reading or something, don't really remember, but I fell asleep with the lights on. I woke up completely paralyzed and couldn't breath. I mean, I was wide awake, struggling for air, trying as hard as I could to sit up and it felt like something was physically holding me down. I looked up at the ceiling and saw a dark mass hovering over me. It was as clear as these words are on the screen. I could see through it because I distinctly remember being able to see the air vent on the ceiling through it.

It couldn't have lasted more than 30 seconds, but I finally shot straight up and took a huge gasp of air. Ever since then I have suffered from sleep apnea, I never had it before that night as far as I can recall. It kind of comes and goes, but it's been acting up recently and my girlfriend routinely has to wake me up.

I may have brushed it off, but the house is just so creepy. One night I was sitting at my desk working on some music and in the dining room doorway there was this bright flash of white light. It looked like a camera flash or something. There was no reflective surfaces and I tried to recreate it with no luck.

Haha, my eyes were watering up typing that. I hate going to that house so much.

RE: Looking for an opinion
Your experience sounds very much like a case of sleep paralysis. There are many thoughts on the subject, and while it is a frightening phenomenon to someone experiencing it, a lot of evidence points to it being a sleeping issue and not paranormal. However, not everyone agrees with that..there are many experiences here in the Sleep Paralysis section on the home page of the forum, and you may want to look over that and see if there are other experiences that sound similar to yours.

RE: Looking for an opinion
Your first experience in your parents new house could be what is called sleep paralysis or old hag syndrome.

There are several threads on here as well as others stories about it. With you having "developed" sleep apnea, it is possible that you are still experiencing this on another level. Perhaps you should seriously go to a sleep clinic. Sleep apnea is very dangerous if indeed that is what it is. It is common to see shadows or people or hear or see other things with sleep paralysis.

There is also the option that you did indeed see a Shadow Man or other entity.

Did you experience anything else with the flash experience? Sounds, thoughts, temperature changes? A headlight going quickly by a window could not have created that?

Please don't take my post incorrectly.... I believe in the paranormal.... I also am a proponent of debunking so that the real experiences maintain merit.

RE: Looking for an opinion
Some friend's of mine have this really bad,one guy wears a sleep apnea mask. But one of them went through the tests and they determined he slept in the wrong position. For myself i find it very hard to sleep in different position's i have a favorite one.Make sure you check out all the medical option's and opinion's see what they say. Then take a look at how you sleep position wise. Also from what you said about not catching your breath, make sure you look into that and get several opinion's if you can.

RE: Looking for an opinion
What you guys are saying about sleep paralysis pretty much matches up with the research I've done on my own, but man was that unpleasant. I just wanted to see what you guys thought because I was so wigged about it when it happened. I can barely even stand to sleep in there when I visit, I usually just end up on the couch. I didn't know there was a section for that, guess I should look around a bit, lol. Thanks for the info though.

About the flash...It happened so quickly that I don't even really remember too much. I experience temperature changes so frequently that I never really put much thought into it. I had goosebumps to be sure, but I don't know how well I can judge it. I'll be sitting out on a deck in 80 degree weather and start shivering uncontrollably. Happens to me all the time. So I don't really trust myself when it comes to chalking up paranormal with temperature.

It was low to the floor and had movement to it. Like it wasn't just one stationary flash. It flashed and then faded out as it moved closer to the floor. Had to be a good two seconds that I watched it. There's no way it could have been a passing headlight, the house is up a good distance higher than the road and it sits in a pretty deep culdesac, so there isn't much traffic. As soon as I saw, after I got through my what moment, I started looking around to see what it could have been because I was saying to myself that there is no way I just saw that. I got a flashlight out and tried to see if I could shine it on anything to recreate it, nuthin.

Sorry for writing a blog, might have to get used to that, haha. I'm all about the details.

Smiles... details are indeed a good thing. It answers questions that might otherwise be asked. I too am VERY detailed.

I have no idea what that flash could have been.

Sleep paralysis is indeed quite scary. As for my opinion, I wonder if everything is getting dumped into that category when in fact there are more real experiences? I don't have the answer to that.
