Poll: Should the government get rid of NASA altogether?
Yes, it's time the private sector took over space exploration.
No, we need NASA no matter what.
NASA should stay but they should work together more.

The End of NASA?

I know we don't usually talk about the work of NASA, but I wanted to pose this question anyway to see what others think.

It's become clear to me that NASA believes that it should be the sole authority on space exploration for the United States and quite possibly the world.

After their rather derisive response to the British bloke who was able to take photos of the earth at high altitudes, I realised that they have a bloated sense of superiority.

With the government being short on money 99.99% of the time, space exploration should be eliminated so that money can be used in other ways. Let the private sector take over.

What would you do if you knew nothing about me, yet I said that I'd protect you with my life, then died doing just that and later you discovered I was someone you would've hated had our paths crossed under different circumstances?

It's all just one big *facepalm* around here.

I heart Sandra Bullock.

RE: The End of NASA?
Two more launches left....it's hard to believe. It's something I didn't see ending in my lifetime. The fact is though...it takes a lot of cash to fund those flights...and the cash just isn't there.

A lot of ground has been broken in the field of space exploration...and I suspect it won't end with the end of the shuttle program.

Both should be needed,it supplys job's and technology and motivation for students' to pursue position's in this field, plus keep's us up to date as far as the military implication's and the USA'S expertise and awareness of space.

That said.... I don't really understand the value of spending that much money on something that may be beyond are need's even in the distant future.

Are technology should be used to further are understanding of the planet we are on, and more money's spent in doing this. IMO

I also believe that there would be less cover-up about aliens should they prove to be real.
