I heard one last night, Candalmas is a "Christian" holy day ! Since When ????? There are others, But I haven't had my coffee yet, so the brain is a little fuzzy ! They built their churches over pagan temples.St. Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland. Snakes represent wisdom. So he chased all the wisdom out of Ireland. Maybe that's why they have problems. Then Michael Collins comes along and he's killed. Sorry off topic here.
The churches are under attack, in case everyone missed it. The Jews basically told the Pope to go take a hike last week.
I see nothing wrong with asking for help from multiple dieties, as they are facets of the same God. So what's the big deal ? The church has their Saints, to pray for help for this or that. Isn't that the same thing various Gods and Goddesses ?

EXACTLY!!! Many Christian holidays were originally Pagan holidays. Thats why I refered her to the website "The Witches Sabbats" Its amazing how many similarities you will find! Paganism (well...the art and practice of it) has been around for much longer then Christianity.

There is drawings that have been found on cave walls that depict not only the story of their time like you would normally find during the cave man days (or shortly after) but drawings of early man worshiping a Goddess AND a God. The drawings depicted a woman full with child (the symbol of the goddess) and a horned male (the symbol of the God)

Its really interesting when you research this stuff

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.

Witchmom- Thank you for your response. I will take a look at the link you gave Smile
Sounds really interesting. So your God/Goddess.. have a name? Or simply called God/Goddess so that each individual can understand He/She personally?

I really believe this. That is why I always say to people on here that no matter what religion you belong to, no matter what belief you hold, no matter what you practise, there is a God, a High being (no matter what we choose to call him or how we worship) and he is there and accessible to all, to those who seek him. Depends Fiona. Sometimes I use generic "lord and lady" when Im doing prayers or devotionals. I do use different deities as I see fit. I have a Matron/Patron which is Hecate and Pan. they have been with me since the beginning of my journy.

But not all Wiccans use named Deities. Each deity has specific qualities and personalities and you use them based on their archtype.

RE: Paganism: does it contradict other religions or can it compliment them?
"The curch of satan is a joke! Yeah....its THOSE people that give Satanism a bad name! My best friend for a long time was a satan worshiper. Basically she belived in herself...that she herself could do what ever she wanted. She felt empowered as a person to dare to live her dreams."

Ok, so this statement made me wonder if people would think i'm a Satanist. I DO believe in myself and I don't need any religion or god or diety to know what's in my heart. I know what I want out of this life. I don't feel that I need to live my life by anyone's standards but my own.
I drive a school bus for a living. I'm going to start school for cosomotology and hopefully own my own home salon in the near future. I strive to raise a respectful, polite, and self confident daughter. I have two cats whom I adore enormously. I love laughter, joy, and happiness. I've also accepted and yes even embraced the negative within myself as well. It is a part of me. It makes me who I am, along with the good. I use those bad parts of myself when it's necessary although I don't enjoy doing so.

I don't feel the need to go to church and repent or confess my sins, as I am the one who has to live with my decisions and the effects that they on those around me. Mainly and most important to me, my daughter.

I am Native American so culturally I DO believe and embrace the "live in harmony with the earth and universe" thought. But even in my native culture there is the belief in a Creator. Why does there HAVE to be a certain thing that "created" us? And later on christianity was introduced into our ways and therefore current "religion/culture" is tainted with christianity. So i stay away from the native american church too for the most part. But it's the closest thing to what's acceptable to me, so if it's necessary i'll show up once in a great great while.

I guess i'm more of a good karma bad karma believer. astrological stuff. good energy bad energy. my astrological sign is libra. venus is my goddess. something about the house of love and marriage. funny cuz my marriage went to hell. probably because i was married to psychic vampire.

But seriously. Does believing in myself and being confident in me make me a satanist?

I personally dont think so but you never know what others will think! There are those out there that can not fathom the idea of someone not believing what they believe in, there for we all must be devil worshipers LOL

RE: Paganism: does it contradict other religions or can it compliment them?
I don't see a conflict between what I think of as "paganism" and my particular religious faith, Protestant. Since I am not all that knowledgeable about the various other religions and their practices, I can only spek for myself.

The notion of picking one time of the year to be decent to other people is obscene because it's actually validating the notion of being miserable wretches the rest of the year.

Just checking to see that I don't contradict myself.
