hey i am also a new member to this sight. to answer your question, there are various versions of this story, one of which is that mary and her baby were murdered in her bathroom (why she must be summoned via mirror). another states that she went mad and murdered her husband. another story i heard (probably my favorite) goes as such, mary is asleep one night and she hears a faint scratching at the door down stairs. the next night, she hears the door open, then close. the next, she hears a voice whisper, "Mary, im on the first step." the next, she hears a voice whisper, "Mary, im on the second step." and so on and so forth in this fashion until finaly, she hears, "Mary, im outside your bedroom door." the next night, "Mary, im inside your bedroom." and the next night, "Mary, im next to your bed." and the next night, she feels her bed sink slightly. "I'VE GOT YOU!" heh. anyway, i hope that answered your questions. Laters.

RE: Bloody Mary?
There is definitely more things on tv that aren't true than things that are true. Even movies and shows based on true facts don't show all the facts, they usually just take the basis of a true story and add to it.

I don't know if Bloody Mary is real or not, I've always thought it was merely a urban legend.

RE: Bloody Mary?
"Bloody Mary" the legend is actually based on two historic personages. Mary I, Queen of England (the real "Bloody Mary") and Countess Elizabeth Bathroy, the Hungarian who was rumored to have bathed in the blood of young, virgin women to retain her beauty. (Click on the names above to be taken to the wikipedia articles on Mary I of England and Countess Bathory)

Often times, Mary's sobriquet and reputation are combined with Countess Bathory's nefarious deeds.

As far as the legend in the bathroom goes... it's a joke played amongst friends. A friend who has NEVER summoned Bloody Mary goes into the water closet/bathroom.... alone... while friends outside the door make noises and possibly lights appear in the room and scare the person inside the water closet/bathroom.

What the person IN the bathroom sees in the mirror is a product of imagination (fueled by adrenaline and friends outside) and your vision as it adjusts for the utter darkness in the room. The actual spectre does not exist.

Another TV show that has had a "Bloody Mary" episode is Supernatural-- in Season 1. It was actually one of the scarier episodes of the series (that and "Hook-Handed Man")... and, I thought, quite good.

RE: Bloody Mary?
Caretaker- Nice page you created. Enjoyed it.

I remember my girlfriend and I doing the Bloody Mary ritual when we were little. Scared us each time we did it. Mary would appear in the mirror when we opened our eyes. I remember screaming and running from the bathroom. If you asked me then, I would of told you that we defiantly saw her. Now I think it was our mind being confused. Between the spinning and our eyes adjusting to the dark.

I work part time at an elementary school. A couple of years ago I had a heck of a time with the little girls, ages 6 and 7, running out of the restroom at recess. They informed me that Bloody Mary was in there. The girls took me in there and showed me where she was appearing in a stainless steel plumbing access door on the wall. I had to try to defuse the situation over concern that someone was going to get hurt running in and out of the restroom. The hysteria continued for a few weeks until all the girls moved on. So, the legend still continues with the younger generation.

Just a note- This year the kids think that a house that borders the school is haunted and a murder lives there. Then earlier this week, I was told they are throwing balls into another backyard because the owners “never had balls”! I wanted to laugh, I know the owners of that house and they could be right on that one. It is always something!

RE: Bloody Mary?
Don't you think Queen Mary in the link below looks like Dennis Waterman? the actor who played in 'minder'
