Baltimore Ghost Story

I've been looking at some of the stories here and decided to share one of my own...

In 2005 I was dating a girl who lived just outside Baltimore Maryland. She lived in an apartment alone with her son who was less than a year old. Initially her mother had lived with them but had recently moved out to live with her boyfriend (soon fiance). For the first few months we were dating, she slept in the master bedroom of the apartment and the baby slept in the smaller bedroom. Because of the distance I lived from her (I lived in Pennsylvania at the time) I tended to go down on and stay there during my days off.

From my first entrance into the apartment, there was always a strange feeling that something was amiss. I asked her about it and she said that occasionally things would disappear only to reappear later in places they would never have been placed. Occasionally, she said, she'd swear she would see someone move past the bedroom doorway, only to check and see no one.

After a few months (I believe it was late April), a friend of hers moved in because she and her husband were separating and my ex's mother had been pushing for her to take a room mate to pick up part of the rent. It was shortly thereafter that things got strange.

Soon the baby began waking up screaming in the middle of the night. Occasionally when this would happen he could be found with a mark that would look like he has been pinched (at least thats how it struck me...a small red area that shouldn't have been there) or scratches (after the first couple showed up, we always made sure his nails were cut short). Similarly my ex was waking up with scratches or bruises several times a week. Nothing was happening to the room mate.

Sometime in mid June, after I had done my best to put up some form of protection (in the interest of disclosure I'm pagan so I used methods held in that tradition) on my ex's bedroom (which she was now sharing with the baby).

One night my ex and myself had just finished watching a movie in her bedroom when I excused myself to use the bathroom. I crossed the hall into the bathroom and as I looked up, in the split moment before I turned on the light, I swear I saw someone. It looked like a girl with at least shoulder length brown hair. She was pale and her eyes were black (the whole eye, reminiscent of the modern Black Eyed Kids phenomenon). By the time this image had registered in my mind, my hand had already flipped the light, and the girl was gone.. leaving me staring into the shower.

I shook the "vision" off telling myself I had to have just mistook some shaped in the dark and allowed my notion that the apartment was haunted to shape what I thought I saw. After all, I thought, a creepy dark haired ghost girl was the stuff of movies like The Ring.

I put the moment behind me and a couple more weeks passed by. Again, we decided to watch a movie in my ex's bedroom but this time invited her roommate to join us. In the middle of the film, once again my bladder inspired me to cross the hall into the bathroom. After answering natures call, I started to cross back into the bedroom where everyone continued watching the movie. As I stepped into the hall, I turned my head and (for no apparent reason other than it beats looking at a closed door) looked into the roommates room. The first thing I noticed was that she had left a beside lamp on.

The second thing I noticed was the brown haired girl sitting on the bed.

She sat hunched over slightly. Her face was almost entirely obscured by her hair as her head was cast down, like she was looking at her lap. Her top was white/grey and she work a dark skirt (navy or black). Her hands sat cupped in her lap.

I stopped dead in my tracks and for a second or two looked at this girl who was, to the best I could discern, identical to the one I had seen in the bathroom. I blinked to make sure I wasn't just seeing things. When I was sure it was there, I continued on my path back into the bedroom and closed the door behind me.

When the movie ended and the room mate got up to return to her room, I feigned needing to use the bathroom again in order to do a quick glimpse into her room to make sure the girl was gone.

I didn't mention the girl for a few more weeks, until my ex told me how she has woke up early one morning to find her door cracked and swore up and down that she had seen a woman/girl staring in at her. She didn't take tons of time to observe details, but in noticing the brown hair and pale skin, immediately realized it was not her room mate. She said she jumped up to see who it was, but in the moment her eyes left the small opening, the girl was gone.

In the next week or so, we debated telling the room mate about the girl we had seen. We knew she didn't believe in the paranormal, but at the same time we both felt she should know. In the end, we held off telling her.

Shorftly thereafter, the room mate divulged to my ex hat she had been having stange dreams. When my ex inquied about them, the room mate told her she had been having dreams that a girl who looked a lot like the girl from the Ring kept coming to her asking her to help her. She said that initially the girl seemed sweet, but that lately the girl had seemed angrier and angrier.

We decided to tell her about the girl.

She laughed at us.

A few more weeks pass, and my ex saw the girl looking through a slightly open bedroom door (that she always insisted she closed... and based on her routine when I was there... I believe her) a few more times.

It is now the beginning of September and the lease expires at the end of the month. I went down to see my ex (who of course was not my ex at the time) and we went grocery shopping. As we got in line at the check out, her cell phone rang, it was her room mate begging us to come home. We told her we were in the check out and would be home shortly, she begged us to come sooner then said that she'd be waiting for us in her car.

Indeed, when we returned to the apartment roughly 10 minutes later, the room mate was sitting in her car with all the doors locked. She would not go into the apartment until someone else wentin and checked everything first. I obliged and saw that she had ran out of the apartment leaving the door wide open.

After taking roughtly 30 minutes to calm her down, the roommate told us that she had been in her room, and decided to make herself dinner. She walked into the kitchen and began fixing something when, from the corner of her eye, she saw the shadows in the dining room shift. She turned her attention to it and realized that the light in the hall to the bedrooms had turned on.

She stepped from the kitchen and turned into the hall to turn it off. As she did, her eyes naturally fell to the end of the hall where her room was. In the open doorway to her bedroom, stood the girl with pale skin, long brown hair, a white/grey shirt, and dark skirt.

It had scared the girl who didn't believe in ghosts silly and she insisted on sleeping on the floor in my ex's room that night and the next few subsequent nights. Within the week she insisted she had found a new place to live and moved by the weekend.

That was the last real sighting of anything in the apartment. As soon as the roommate moved, everything seemed to go quiet for the next few weeks until my ex too moved out.

We did a search of papers and the internet trying to find some information that would help us discern what was going on (or who we were seeing), but alas it was to no avail.

One final side note that I tend to tack onto this story- As I mentioned above, I'm pagan. As such I wear a silver pentacle pendant around my neck. I tend to believe it offers protection to me (similarly to hw many Christians feel they are protected by a cross). During this affair, my silver pentacle (which I had had for a couple of years, never removed and, despite having never polished it, had never tarnished) turned copper colored. Eventually the chain snapped and I put it in my wallet. Shortly after my ex moved, I got a new chain.... when I pulled the pentacle from my wallet.... the pentacle was silver again (even in areas that would not have been rubbed by surfaces in the wallet). I don't know what to make of this last part but I find it interesting....

RE: Baltimore Ghost Story
Very interesting. I wonder if the girl went with the roommate, still seeking help. I feel very sad for her. She is trapped.

RE: Baltimore Ghost Story
Perhaps the room mate is somewhat open to the psychic abilites that others told her werent real and etc. It can be freaky to know that this is true and if she is psychic the ghost probably saw her as a light in a dark world as she did with you and your ex.
