R.E.Lee and Stonewall Jackson-Haunting?

I was wondering if anyone had heard about suppoosedly odd occurances in the vicinity of the crypt of Lee at Washington and Lee University and the burial site of Stonewall Jackson, and the site of Jackson's arm, yep last I hear they had not be reunited. I had a chance meeting with an instructor that I hadd known for several years and the connversations seemed to often drift to the burial sites of the two generals and any paranormal activity. He had somee fuzzy photographs that might have been taken by any non-prrofessional, that knew little more about photography than which end to aim the camera. Around Lee's below level crypt, I have a sensed a level of calmness, of a man who became famous because he defended a cause doomed before it began, but his expression seemed to speak of a man who sought no fame but handled it well when thrust on him.Not nearly as fancy is Jackson'e resting place but one that fitted the man. Flowers are still left there, though not always encouraged if over-done. The times I have been to VMI, I have gone by to pay my regards to the commander who managed to keep my 14 cousins alive in the first years of the war. It has a sense of peace, a man cut down too soon and perhaps it's his still caall to dutty that lingers, tto finish what he did not start but determined to stay to the end. To my knowledge, neither were believers in the "paranormal" and probably would "bring you up short"' if one tried to ddiscuss it with them. Something is there, as for what that is, I have no idea.

The notion of picking one time of the year to be decent to other people is obscene because it's actually validating the notion of being miserable wretches the rest of the year.

I had heard of Robert E. Lee's childhood home being haunted...the people who study these things don't know if it is him or the ghost of his four year old son who apparently died in a tragic accident. I hadn't heard about any actual hauntings that would be attributed to Robert E. Lee in that area. I have heard stories about Stonewall Jackson Mermorial Cemetary.

Thanks for sharing this...I'll be looking for more information on that! I've always felt drawn to the experiences of the War Between the States....it's heartbreaking to think how awful it must have been for the soldiers fighting, often without proper medical treatment. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the participants of any war whose lives tragically ended have stayed behind in one form or another.

Apparently there are few that are interested in the most well recognized names of the Civil War; just kidding. I can appreciated if most of the members are living in the North/Union states. Sorry, I'm just in one of my "funny moods" and like to find humor in anything I post. Hope you'll forgive me. Smile Smile

If I were Robert E. Lee, I wouldn't be sleeping either-- they built a cemetery on his estate, where they continue to bury soldiers to this day.

I hadn't heard any ghost stories about "Stonewall" Jackson's tomb(s)... What sort of hauntings is it said goes on there?

The stories I've heard have been from people who went to Lexington, Virginia for the tours of the historical spots there...and the cemetery was one of the spots that had a lot of supposed sightings of Jacskson...usually on his horse!
