planning my first record

Sponsor Messages
hi
just like to begin and say what a great forum lots of good advice Icontexto-emoticons-06-032x032

i have recently been interested in catching evps but have not yet done any recording.
i am going to do my first record at the end of this week just along the road in a cemetery.
i have an idea of what recording gear i will need i have recently purchased a olympus VN-480 digital recorder and wonder if anybody has ever used this model recorder and the results they got??

i have a couple of questions and would much appreciate if somebody could guide me in the right direction
firstly i want to do my first record on my own but i have seen around the web people saying its not advisable to go to cemetery on your own in the dark?? especially if your going to carry out evp??

secondly what background noises should i use with my recorder or should i not bother using background noise and just rely on the recorder alone???

sorry if these questions seems stupid but i just want to go and know i have an excellent chance of recording evps and i am not just wasting my time as i haven't really come prepared.

any information would be so much appreciated

regards

Craig

People recommend not going alone for safety reasons. Have I ever gone alone? Yes but it was a location that while rumored as haunted was always peaceful to me. Since that time there has been a gunman there threatening and shooting at people. So safety in numbers. People have been mugged and robbed ghost hunting at other locations so use common sense when you do this. Now if you do go at night get permission as more and more cemeteries are closed at dusk and can result in fines or even jail time for trespassing.
An Olympus isn't a bad unit but I do recommend a few others over it. Some people claim you should add white noise to do evp's but I question why you would add more noise to an already hard to pull out sound. Now I recommend taking a chair sitting down in different locations and also setting the recorder down while doing evp work to eliminate your own noises contamination. Do this in numerous locations around the cemetery and also if you do make a noise announce it on the recorder so you will know during review. If a plane goes over or a car goes by announce it. Any known sound you should tag. at the beginning of your evp session announce the time and have everyone involved speak so you have their voice as reference.

When investigating paranormal don't rely on assumptions, base your decisions on evidence.

thanks for your reply

the reason i want to do it alone is its my first time and i just want to sort of be able to speak out loud and not feel awkward and i most certainly feel taking somebody along would be a waste of time as i am very serious about doing this and wouldn't want somebody to tag along who will wreck what i am trying to do by silly remarks or bursts of laughter it would make me feel even more un-comfortable.
good point permission didnt think of that but as far as i know there is one main gate which is locked and a gate that is always open.

the cemetery i have chosen is a very old one in a small welsh village just a stone throw from where i live every time we drive past my hairs on my neck stand up and i get goosebumps and feel this may just be the right place to start.

i am very open minded of what to expect and know i may not even get a single evp but it wont stop my commitment to picking myself up and starting all over again.

i have also bought another digital recorder Sanyo Digital Voice Recorder ICR-B100
both recorders for under 20 pound plus delivery Smile

i was going to buy a ghost box but have seen much negative comments to how they can cause lots of fake positives.

thanks again for your reply

take care

I am going to offer a bit more advice, practice in your own home, so you have an idea of natural sounds that may fool you.

As far as a ghost box or Franks box, some people claim they work, I personally think its stupid to scan radio stations and not expect it to play words.

thanks,

have thought about it but wouldn't get a moments peace with my kids even early hours of the morning Madred

yes my thoughts exactly regarding the franks box just seems you would be constantly reviewing the false negatives and for a begginer like me i doubt its the best choice really to start with.

i suppose its down to what ever gets you results
