Real or local legend, anyway, the caterwauling of the "demoniic cat" known to the Senate maintance staff as "D.C.", is said to stalk the basement near the Catafaque Storage Room, can sometimes be heard echoing through the dark corridors. In 1862 and again in 1898, Senate guards reported shooting at a "huge balck cat" that had swelled to the size of an elephant. In the 1950s, a guard came across the demonic cat and watched it as it swellwd to the size of a tiger, then saw it as it vanished. Over the years, such run-ins with the cat, in question, have portended unpleasant events for the nation."D.C." was supposed to have been heard before assinations, deaths, wars, and other events that woulld test the strength of the nation and it's population.

The notion of picking one time of the year to be decent to other people is obscene because it's actually validating the notion of being miserable wretches the rest of the year.

Glad you found it interesting. Don't try asking any of the Senate security staff about it, as it is one of those questions that will never get an answer to.

I imagine "DC" is really causing a fus after hearing all of the news reporters talking about "the speech" this week, not to mention how the House and Senate members are reacting.Icontexto-emoticons-08-032x032

Where did you find this information? I tried searching for the story and there's only this thread that came up in the results....

What would you do if you knew nothing about me, yet I said that I'd protect you with my life, then died doing just that and later you discovered I was someone you would've hated had our paths crossed under different circumstances?

It's all just one big *facepalm* around here.

I heart Sandra Bullock.

RE: Demonic Cat of the Senate, Washington, D.C.
I've read about it before... Hell if I can find which of my ghost story books it is in, though. Ugh. Over half the books I own (and that's a lot) are still packed up... not that it would matter... I own a great lot of ghost story books too so finding which one it's in could be quite the chore.

From what I remember about the story-- it's said that you only see the back cat around times of great tragedy. I know it was seen around the time Lincoln was assassinated.

I don't remember reading anything about the cat swelling in size, though... I'll have to find the story...
