RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
Ouija boards are weird. I bought one like a year ago at Spencers and never have had anything happen but they`re still interestiog for some reason. I sat up the other night and used mine, but nothing happened.

Head_72 If I needed someone to control me, if I needed someone to push me around I would change my dirction and save myself before I drown.

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
Spirit boards have been used since before Cleopatra's time. I use my spirit boards as a tool to accomplish something. I have homemade ones and I also have one spirit cloth that is silk screened. (I think we have a "Ouija Board" by Parker Brothers somewhere, but do not tend to use that one). I have even used two pces of lined paper with the letters, numbers and a couple symbols drawn with a blue pen on it, taped to the kitchen table and a shot glass as a pointer, it worked wonderfully for several hours.

The response is gauged by the people who are working on the board. When we have several Sensitives working on the board, it flies and will be a very productive session. If we have someone who doesn't believe they have any ability to receive information from the spirit realm... or if they make fun of it, it will either be very slow or not do anything at all. Successful sessions we always show respect for the spirits that we are communicating with. (You wouldn't treat your grandparents with out respect!)

The response is through the people using it. The spirits channel energy through the contact of the fingers of the people participating. That does not mean they are "pushing' it. If you have used these boards regularly you know immediately if someone is pushing the pointer. It also depends if you are communicating with a powerful spirit or a weaker spirit as to how long the communication will be and what is accomplished in acquiring information and messages.

We have a dominant spirit on each of the boards our group uses. That spirit controls to an extent what other spirits may come through and speak with us. We have one darker spirit board and several that have spirits with no evil in them at all. This prevents most of the time from running into trouble with evil, but not to say we haven't had demons come through and challenge us, we have. In that case you have to have some knowledge of what to do to control or get rid of the evil.

Protection prayers are put in place before each session and around everyone who is participating. The intent is not to cause trouble, most cases to solve troubled situations. It is also not to be "playing a game". It makes a difference what the intent is that the participants have. After every session the board is officially closed and the spirits that have been communicating are thanked. Frequently our dominant spirit will interrupt us and say its time to close for the evening as we have attracted an evil energy we dont want to come in. We always heed that warning and close even when we are not finished with whatever we wanted to accomplish..

Spirit boards or Ouija Boards should not be made and sold as a game, especially to innocent children or used by those who dont know how to get out of trouble should they open up trouble!. They can cause some serious problems if not used in a setting that the participants know how to cope with what might come in.

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
A couple of my girlfriends when we were in college used the board for fun, mostly when we were smashed out of our heads. Yes, I was a drunk when I was young! the first time we used it nothing happened, the second time, nothing, the third time nothing, we got bored and that was the last time we did anything with the board.

What kinds of things would you be trying to 'accomplish' through use of these boards, celticflame?

In my opinion, too many people have had very bad experiences with one. Mine was minor, but it was enough to keep me from wanting to experiment again.

One of our members, Bracket, wrote an excellent article on how the Ouija board came about and it's history...I do believe that the original intent was to make a quick dollar, I just don't agree that it should be sold as a game.

Here is the article Bracket wrote, just click on the link.

I will add that while I don't agree that it is a harmless game, I think this article was very well written and informative...it really is something you have to make your own choice about.

I came back to hit the 'reply' and re-post the link to Bracket's article. Kudos, Bracket, on the article. Very interesting and informative. Thanks scarygirl67, for putting this link in your post.

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
mythbuster, we us it as a tool much as evps, cameras, emf meters, etc are used by others. We were serious investigators before we started using the boards as a tool. We do spirit communication, research on people and places for people and places. When we question historical spirits. we get statistically, unexplainable accuracy. We do not treat it as a party joke to try to scare into the "pee your pants" scare most youngsters used a board for. Once a regular well known spirit who had been communicating with us for many months, when asked to "move the object off the paper" where someone had outlined it on, He said "I dont do parlor tricks." He is a known historical figure and was aggravated with the run of the mill ghost hunter approaches.

Several of our team get consistent results and several it rarely works for. Difference being a Sensitive vs a Non Sensitive. It doesn't matter if you are a believer or not. We had some skeptics on the team many years ago but they seem to have become believers ... The boards still dont respond to them the way they do to a Sensitive. If they were Sensitives to begin with and find they have results with the various communication techniques used (including spirit boards), they become believers pretty quickly and learn how and what the correct way to use the tools are.

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
When I was 12, my friend brought a ouija board over. I had never even heard of it, had no idea what it was. A couple of my other friends came over and we took turns using it. I wont go into details, but bad stuff happened, and I never touched one of those things again. I never would have in the first place if I had known that they could possibly summon evil spirits--it's not the board itself that's bad, it's the fact that it might invite evil spirits in!
