Curiousity!
(killed the cat, I know) We want to know for ourselves just what will happen,
if anything...

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
I have never had a negative experience with an Ouija board, and have used them with some regularity since 1995. I have had spirits get testy (for lack of a better word), or try to be bullies. Merely giving strength to my will and telling them to leave has always worked-- no problem at all.

I wonder if the reason some people have negative/frightening experiences has to do with the eschatology of their faith. Mine states that this isn't the end, and in fact our spirits/souls can walk through the veil of this work and that freely-- others like the Big Three speak of specific afterlives, places that the spirits reside after death. this would mean that the spirits who might speak through the board (yes, I said might, and will explain shortly) won't be thought of in the same way as I think of them-- rather than spirits of persons or animals, they would be thought of as evil entities.

As for the reason I said "might speak"... there have been some studies that show (albeit not definitively) that there are minute muscle movements in the user's hands and arms. These "twitches" are thought to be the causes of some or all of the movements of the board's planchette. If this is the case (and I honestly don't know, seems to be a distinct possibility) then you're talking to yourself-- as the user of the board, and there isn't much room for a diabolical spirit in this instance.

I am not making fun of those who believe Ouija boards to be a portal to a negative place. I am merely offering my opinion on this matter.

Because they don't release anything, demons or anythhing. I have played with several in my collection of about 20 and nothing evil has happened bad to me if you consider a better job, with better pay, a new homes, and a new car, bad things.

The notion of picking one time of the year to be decent to other people is obscene because it's actually validating the notion of being miserable wretches the rest of the year.

Folks, there is nothing inherently dangerous about them. Letting ones imagination run away with itself can cause more trouble than a piece of wood with things painted on even though it might be painted in blood, supposedly, can or will summon anything, open any door to "the other side", wherever that is, or in general not be in ones best interest to fool around it. I've tried on the floor, the kitchem table, a freshly dug grave, and we got no reply. I make the boards myself for those interested, no guarentees are included/

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
The answer is - CURIOSITY!! I myself have never ever seen one ''live'' but sometimes I feel courious to get it and try one out!
I heard that ppl used it to contact their loved ones who passed away... I would use it for the same reason - there are somethings I would like to ask about them, some things I never asked because I was taken by surprise by their deaths. I don't care for the future - what will happen' it will happen' sometimes it is better not to know Smile
Maybe it's wrong, I don't know...

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
People play with them out of curiosity. Sometimes the idea of something "taboo" is awfully exciting!

The problem does not lye within the board its self but the people using the board. The board is just that...an inanimate object. When people start "playing' is when people open stuff up.

You should never use a spirit board or ouija without a proper protection cast. I mean that I wont use a spirit board (which i have done and still do now that I know what I'm doing) without casting a ritual type circle and without asking for my elements and deity to protect.

I've done it in the past as a silly kid and it wasnt fun!

The same kind of people that pump gas into their car and smoke at the same time.

Hi GH
OK So you obviously have a lot of experience with Quija boards. You even make and sell them. Nothing "bad" has occured that you link to usage of the toy. I'm sure you know yourself to be a minority in your "lack of fear of Quija boards" especially in paranormal circles such as this.

I'd like to use this thread to ask you some questions about your experiences. Forgive me if you have already answered this stuff in other threads. I'm feeling lazy and don't want to rummage in dusty archives right now.

So: Have you or do you "take any precautions" prior to or during your Quija sessions? If yes...please elaborate.

Parker Bros. has an "8 yr to adult" recommendation on their boards. Do you include any recommendations or disclaimers with yours?

Do you believe the Quija can facilitate actual communication with the dead?

Thats enough for this post.
Thanks in advance

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
Some people do it just to see what will happen. I myself am addicted to it. I know I shouldn't be and I know i shouldn't use it alone, but I do. I can't help it. Something about the dark feel to it I can't resist.

from my expirience i think they do it because 1.they either do not believe its real and think its a game, or 2.thought itd be fun to try and see what they get. or 3.they actually are just trying to contact a passed relitive. so yeah i did it once when i didnt believe luckly nothing happened to me but it did to a dear friend of mine i wont come within 10 feet of them now
