why do people mess with Ouija Boards?

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
I know that it my instance we played ouija for entertainment purposes only. Every year (not this year) I have a Halloween party and towards the end we always break out the board. I never use it any other time of the year but a lot of folks get curious during this time of year. Last two years it revealed some pretty accurate spooky stuff, so we quit using it. (Things that no one could have predicted.) Some of the board users actually investigated what the board proclaimed only later to find out they were true. Also had a guy play the board who was warned that he had a serious illness and went and had himself looked at because it disturbed him so much. Turns out, he did have this illness and had to have treatment. The board really freaked a lot of non believers out that night. No one has asked this year about borrowing the board needless to say....

I would bet not! That would have freaked me out too...don't blame them for not wanting to bring it out this year.

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
This is just my opinion but I think people use a Ouija board to seek out the unknown.
Some do it in hopes to speak to a loved one they lost.
Some do it just for amusement or to frighten or shake up their friends.
I do it to seek out the unknown.

So far it hasn't done much for me, although it has been a while since I messed with it.
I am one of the ones that people try to warn, because I choose to play with it alone.
Note the word 'Play'.
It is a game to some and real for others.
I would like to believe that it works, but so far am not convinced.

I'll probably get lectures for telling you this but I have gone so far as to make my own board out of solid oak wood and carved in the numbers and letters and symbols.

I even went a step further and used a syringe to carefully deposit my own blood into the carvings.
Ok, having said that I'm ready for the lectures Big Grin

Sucks to be me, (pun intended)

"I think those who play or whatever with things like this, are trying to fill an empty void in their life.
However if they take time to look around, there is so much more that is being offered to fill this void.
We all have inner demons we struggle with each day, some choose not to fight, and give in.
Others have been down that road, and know how lonely and dark the path is.
some need to stand outside, look up at the white clouds in the blue sky,and bask in the glorious sun.
there you will find the answers you seek, and you will know why you are here."

That's a very logical way to look at it, but people who get into witchboards and other means of trying to communicate with the other side rarely think of it logically.
Duely noted though

RE: why do people mess with Ouija Boards?
I think the majority of young people that mess with them is out of curiosity. I know when I played with one as a child, I had never experienced a death. We had no idea what we were doing. It was all fun and games, until one faithful afternoon when it was no longer fun. Someday I might share. I still get freaked out talking about it. No one that was there, will talk about it.

Then there is the ones trying to reach a deceased love one. This breaks my heart. You have no idea who is coming through. Those spirits will lie. They will pretend to be someone they are not.

I will never touch another board. I will not even touch the box of the one that keeps reappearing. I have been trying to get rid of it for three decades now. I keeps showing up. Hubby has to move it. I hate that thing!

Oh, No, No! I would never burn a board. Besides being concerned about sealing a board correctly, I live in a large populated area. I could see it now.....Fireman- "Madam, What are you burning"? Me- "A ouija board". Next thing you know, the men dressed in white will be taking me for an extended vacation.

Ali, I hate to hear that you had such a bad experience. I know Warrior and a few others have, also. I have never used one. I was at a party, though, when I was in Jr. High and the girls broke one out. I don't remember what happened exactly, but I do remember the dog trippin' out and barking up in the corner. He had been just fine before they started playing.
I say leave them alone.

People use a ouija board because it's a fun game. That's all.
