RE: Catholicism vs Christianity
I've not attended any Protestant church in quite a while now. I spent a couple of years attending a private high school. There were Catholics, Protestants in various flavors. We were allowed to share our beliefs, without ridicule. If it was part of an actual class, we had to prepare and then present the basis of our beliefs. There was only one time that the principal expressed his opinion about my work, and he seemed to believe that I was leaning to far in the direction of how I was raised. Ha! That didn't phase me. I thought it was a bit funny, considering they asked for my opinion. Now that I'm older, I can more clearly see there are some aspects of the Catholic faith and practices offer a great benefit to those who know how to receive it. Yes. I am considering changing my faith. I'll probably wait until my father passes on. He'd argue 'til doomsday that I'm wrong, and I just don't have the will power to spend on that. Living is hard enough as it is.

Forgiveness is next to deity.

RE: Catholicism vs Christianity
Does any of this really matter?

Whatever makes you happy and isn't harmful to others... that's a good faith to stand by in my opinion

Catholicism has done this for me and therefore I stand by catholicism...

My attitude to religion isn't conformistic but flexible. I'm the type of guy who doesn't adhere relentlessly to a dogma because that's what's expected....
I view the bible as a source that provides valuable information on living life positively... living to a fuller, satisfactory extent.

I also don't try and rationalise the existence of god with doctrines or science. I feel there is a god and this has given me comfort.

R.I.P Dad Sun Missin you as always

RE: Catholicism vs Christianity
I am also Catholic, and Catholics have taken a load of crap from protestants, atheists, evangelicals, and just everybody else, yet I have never heard any Catholic "bash" people of other faiths or denominations. And yes, we are Christians, because we believe in Jesus Christ, and we don't "worship" the blessed mother, we merely ask her to intervene and pray for us--other denominations ask people to pray for them all the time--are they "worshipping" them? What it all comes down to is this: We have freedom of religion in the US, and I feel that whatever faith or denomination brings you closer to God is the one you should go with; and for me that is the Catholic faith.
Oh, yeah, Protestants executed a lot of Catholics who refused to turn Protestant, too!

I'm Catholic and i agree with you.

I attended Catholic schools and not once did the teachers/or my friends ever bash other religions. The highschool i attended our vice principal was a nun, and i never heard her bash other religions.

Even thou i attended catholic schools and my parents have a very high belief in their catholic faith, i am not that religious, i know what i've been taught and i still believe what i want to believe.

Personally my friends and i don't sit around having coffee and talk about our religion never have and probably we will not start. If religion is brought up that only happens once in a blue moon.

Around my place, we always get other religions coming to our door handing out pamphlets and wanting us to come and attend their mass.... I tell them that i'm happy with my religion and i don't have time to read their pamphlets.

I even had this guy once come back to my place of employment with gospel music telling me to listen to it and to come and join his church and listen in.... I was like 'no thanks'.

RE: Catholicism vs Christianity
All I want to say is that I believe 100% that Catholics are Christians. They do believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and believe in His death and resurrection. That's the key factor in being a Christian. Yes, they have added things like certain rituals and prayers in weekly mass etc, but they still are Christ followers.

I am not a Catholic (although my mum is a strict Catholic!) but I am a Christian.

It was on the news this morning. BTW I have to always state that my argument is with the church itslef and not fellow christians that happen to be catholic.

Good, and thank you.... it really isn't my fault (i'm not accusing u of anything, just saying) that the church did what it did in the past.... Also there's nothing i (myself) can do to change the past.... Just because i'm Catholic, doesn't mean i follow it.... I attended the Catholic schools in my area, because they were great schools, great teachers and they were on top of the students, i attended a public highschool for a semester and the teachers that i had really cared less... but this is my area, doesn't mean all areas are the same.

RE: Catholicism vs Christianity
Catholicism is a christian religion. Christian is merely a term that encompasses a set of religions that believe in one God who created man in his image, the teaching he bestowed upon us, and that he delivered unto us a son in his image that was to save us all, or/and will eventually send a son of man to save us all.

However, I feel that Catholicism is a very... how can I put this... misguided religion. Catholicism has not evolved with the times and is met with harsh criticism when it comes to things they HARSHLY CONDEMN like Contraception, Pre-Marrital Sex, homosexuality, and other things.
