An Increase of Shadow People?
((Just posted this in the introduction thread but I kinda went off more than planned, so it'd probably be better suited for this one.))

So it's been a while (5, 6 years?) since I've had any personal experiences with shadow people, let alone had other people come to me complaining about them. I went and hunted this website down because I REALLY need to know if anyone else has been having similar experiences.

For the past few months, but specifically in the last week before new year's, I've had reoccurring issues with persistent dark figures in my peripheral. I mean, pretty sure everyone on the planet has seen a supposed shadow person at some point in their life but since November, with progressively more and more frequency, I've noticed the things everywhere. Not just a flash of black and it's gone, but a flash of black, it's gone, then three seconds later, another one. Repeat times ten. Then a door slams shut or something flies off of a table. Or some electronic something or other goes haywire and does a really solid imitation of a bad vaporwave gif. Or you're moderately drunk and something's sitting on the foot of your bed, and won't leave no matter how much you stare at it, probably knowing that you're not lucid enough to take your own eyes seriously. But this is old boring stuff you hear about all the time.

The reason I'm vastly concerned is because this is not just me, in my house, assuming that it's haunted or that I'm cursed, or crazy, or whatever. Since around the start of December, more and more people I know, and some I don't, have been experiencing the same things. Friends in states all over the country (Washington, Maine, California and Massachusetts, for example), have individually reported experiences of incredibly similar detail, with sightings growing more and more frequent in the past week. Most notably, I came into the back room at my work three days ago to find my no-nonsense coworker freaked out over "something tall, black and moving", that reportedly appeared right before the fridge doors started opening on their own, and the trashcan lid apparently flipped up, scaring her to pieces. (Another person claims to have gotten a clear enough view of the figure to see eyes, presumably a lot of them). I've heard even more, unrelated and unbiased accounts online. The vast majority of these people do not know each other.

But mostly, I'm here because of my experience last night. I was dogsitting alone in my apartment (a very large, very new, very not-creepy complex in the city, mind you) watching tv in the dark around 11 pm when I saw something out of the corner of my eye standing in the entryway. I noticed mostly because the dog perked her head up to stare at it, but the thing was gone as soon as I looked at it myself, and I swallowed my unease and forced myself to focus back on the tv even with the dog still staring. I've been seeing them a lot and figured this wasn't too different. This happened three more times in a span of about 15 minutes before I started noticing a loud, reverberating growling from under the couch. Thought it was the dog at first, but I shined a light to check and she was in her bed on the other side of the room in plain sight. Once again, forced myself to ignore it. I was deeply unsettled and this was definitely new, but hey maybe it was something under the archway below our apartment that was REALLY loud and close-sounding for whatever reason. Then out of nowhere the tv erupted in loud static. I jumped for the remote and started furiously button-mashing because I was admittedly freaked the dadgum out at this point, and even though I did manage to successfully pop the dvd drive open (thanks Obama??) and prove that the remote worked, that was all it was capable of. The channels wouldn't change, the sound of it was still busting my dadgum eardrums no matter how much i mashed the volume buttons, and I turned the thing off and flicked all the lights on pretty godamn quickly after that. Nothing has happened since. I sat up on the couch like an owl. My roommates came home okay, and the tv worked fine this morning. Like nothing had happened. I don't know what to make of it.

Normally, shadow people dissipate after being spotted. They're also mostly considered to be the lost souls of humans that got stuck, or are hanging around because for whatever reason, they can't move on. It's been suggested that the sudden increase around New Year's Eve has something to do with the massive death toll of 2016. Or that they're an omen. Has anyone else had similar experiences lately? Does anyone else have any information or ideas as to what's been going on? I feel like there's something I'm supposed to put together here but I can't put my finger on it.
Shadow people aren't anything, independently.

Here's a little insight if you wanna get deep about it. Think of "the Abyss" as your psyche...

In the Abyss all things exist, indeed, at least in posse, but are without any possible meaning; for they lack the substratum of spiritual Reality. They are appearances without Law. They are thus Insane Delusions.

Now the Abyss being thus the great storehouse of Phenomena, it is the source of all impressions.

You can put your hand right through these things. They're illusions, and people shouldn't get caught up in the phenomena.
