well, remember that God was a bit of a prick in the old testament, Lucifer i always thought was a bit of a revollutionist that wanted change but in the end was consumed by hate. He was an angel after all. I don't think he may have been pure "evil" but neither was caesar if you think about it.

When i wake up everything will be all right...

RE: Who killed more in the bible? God or Satan
I think I said elsewhere on the forum, that God can not be held to the same standard as man. Man after all is not a god. God holds the power of death and for Him it does not mean the same as for us. For us, it is an end. For God it is just a tool. He gives and he removes. Your life is not yours, it is the creator.

God was a God of wrath in the Old Testament, He was angry. His creation, Satan and the fallen angels included was challenging his authority. How foolish for with just a snap you are gone.

Satan can not be destroyed, but he might well wish that he could be by the end of the 1000 year rule. Now, many people think how unfair of God, but if you think it is wrong and that you would not destroy as He has done, then in your mind you are better than God.

This is a religious point of view. I will say that in the New Testament. that Christ intervened on the part of Man, paid man's debt and we began anew under a new covenant.

But Man only has a small window and Satan is hard at work to take us down with him.

Well, I'm not going to try to argue with the numbers.....a bit pointless. I maintain the Bible was written by human beings, not God, and many years after the fact.

I'm also not going to analyze every death and try to justify it. According to Christianity, Satan cannot kill anyone without God's "permission" so to speak.....hence the deaths of Job's family, which are the only deaths in the Bible directly related to Satan. This was done as a test for Job to see if he would maintain his faith even though he lost everything he had.

God did have to clean house at certain points in Biblical times, at least according to the Scriptures. But is it possible that these events that occurred were natural disasters, such as the flood, that needed an explanation of some kind? The early religious leaders wanted the masses under their thumb....not much has changed there. For them to have control, it was essential that they fear God. It is my opinion that the Bible was written to further the agenda of those who wanted to control the people.

It's like any other story.....much of it started out true.....then it got twisted by Mankind wanting to have God's power. To do that, I believe God was written to be vengeful and swift to punish.

I believe what Jesus taught, plain and simple. He spoke plainly and He spoke of love, compassion, forgiveness, and tolerance. I'm not saying these deaths didn't happen....I'm saying that the writers of the Bible wanted this Book to control what people thought. To do that.....make them afraid.

Again, these are my observations. I do not claim to be right or to have all the answers. This is what makes sense to me......but I'm sure someone out there will disagree and try to push the issue further.

RE: Who killed more in the bible? God or Satan
From what I remember of attending church as a child, God was often referred to as the "God of love".

On eof my biggest reasons for being extremely distrustful of religions is the utter hypocrisy of this. The bible, as stated in the original post, is one of the most violent accounts of pre-history that we have. Unspeakable acts of violence and war have been and still are perpetrated on the basis of religious belief.

I have no issue with people's perosnal belief systems, provided they do not unduly interfere with anyone else, and provided they are compassionate and understanding of other faiths and beliefs or lack thereof.

I do have issues with acts of violence. No matter in who's name they may be commited.

My problem with the violence in the bible is that it is used as a means of making people feel that they are inherent "sinners" who deserve nothing but death from their supposed loving God, and is used by the church to engender hatred, division and war in the name of "God". I believe this word should be substituted with the word "power".

Could you explain what you mean by the 'devils people'? And also the use of the term 'usually' ... who did he kill on the occassions that it was NOT the devils people?

Perhaps, if God made man in his own image, that explains all the killing in the world?

RE: Who killed more in the bible? God or Satan
God destroyed those who did not keep His Commandments, but He always warned them. He sent His prophets to these people and sometimes they repented as with Jonas, sometimes they didn't as with Lot.

We know the story of Lot, nephew of Abraham, Sodom and Gomorrah. Not ten men in the city were found righteous and fire and brimstone were rained down upon the two, destroying them.

This is when Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt. He is warning us today, are you listening?

I am letting this be my final comment, you enjoy your discussion and I pray it will help you.

How do you qualify this in today's world? Sodom & Gomorrah is mainly an anti-homosexual fable. I assume you believe that homosexuality is evil, and punishable by death?

Not to this kind of message I'm not. I am anti-violence and pro-acceptance, 2 traits which are preached by Christianity, and rarely practised.

I am also anti-fear. Any religion that asks for my "fear and respect" can go jump, unless they prove themselves worthy.

Why bother posting in these kinds of threads if you are not up for seeing the discussion through? I am very suspicious when faith refuses to be questioned, as it indicates an actual LACK of faith ... true faith welcomes contradiction and argument as it is confident in it's own integrity. It appears faith is sometimes too fragile to stand up against reasoning.

Don't pray for me, and please do not say that to me again. I find it offensive that you hide an apparent dismissal of me and my argument behind a religious affectation.
