It amazes me that people would prop a deceased person up for a picture. So strange. I think of you as I always have, Ali.....a sweet person and a great member of this forum! It's odd, I haven't been able to find much on "why".....just that it was a common practice, especially in the 19th century. Now on a related note I just found this and I think this is just as sick if not more. Having your loved one creamated and put in an urn that looks like them. http://blogs.app.com/saywhat/2009/07/31/...ones-head/ When investigating paranormal don't rely on assumptions, base your decisions on evidence. |

I think it is still a common practice. My family have always taken pictures of the dead in their coffins at funerals. I dont really care for the idea myself. I saw some of those pictures when I was a kid and they scared me. In fact I have quite a lot of pictures and some really old ones and I am sure there are some post morten pictures in the bunch.
I also have a few old vintage ones that I found online this morning. I will post some of them here in a bit. ~ Questioning the answers is much more important than answering the questions ~

Oh my! I wonder if the eyes follow you around the room. Reminds me of the old movie with the head in the jar, but the jar lady was not dead.

Here are a couple other old photos to add to the thread: In the first one the young girl is very much alive but is posing with her dead brother(?) ~ Questioning the answers is much more important than answering the questions ~

RE: Pictures at funerals (not for the squeamish)
The one of the father holding the child is just so sad! I can't even imagine......although I do know of a woman who had a baby who was stillborn, and she had a picture taken of her holding the baby. It was a sad picture, and one she kept to herself....but I understood why she did it.
I looked up more about it, and there are still many people who do this....it's just another way to remember the deceased, from what I understand.
