My First Sleep Paralysis
I posted this on my forum today and i'd love to share it with you, 'My First Sleep Paralysis':
I think it was three mornings ago this happened, I can't be sure now as the days have been strange lately. I spoke to Karen who comes on this site and mine about my experience, this is what i told her: I woke up quite late in the morning for me, I think it was around 9 or 10 am, but I can't be certain as I didn't check my watch. As i opened my eyes, i realised i couldn't move a muscle. I was COMPLETELY paralysed. I remember feeling very panicked and felt sure i was about to see something horrible. I tried to cry out, but couldn't do this either. As my eyes looked around the room, the atmosphere was hazy looking, why that should be i don't know, but it was. The room was light as my curtains are thin and let almost all the daylight in. I became aware that my dog who always sleeps with me was noticing something was wrong. This is when I realised for sure this was happening for real and I wasn't in a dream like state. He started crawling up the bed towards the pillows, but i still couldn't move. This all lasted for about 10 or 12 seconds. I know people who have suffered sleep paralysis before and have stated that they have felt a pressure on their chest, but I didn't feel that, just the paralysis. This happened very briefly the following morning, but this time only lasted about 2 seconds. I have been told that this could be an inccubus, if it is, i didn't see anything. Anyway the whole thing has made me want to stay up quite late into the early hours when the sun rises about 4am, as i'm afraid to go to bed when it is dark. Although, (this may sound strange) i'm also quite excited by this experience, as i have not had a paranormal experience (if it is paranormal) for about a decade now. What do you think? ![]() Greyfriars Bobby's Ghost All my life I always wanted to be somebody. Now I see that I should have been more specific... |

I'd be scared to death, priestess! but that's just me. Reminds me of that book, The Demon Syndrome, where that thing would float over her when she was in bed and suck the life out of her. I'll be watching to see what others have to say about your experience

RE: My First Sleep Paralysis
So you have had SP then? I must admit if i'm totaly honest, i really don't go with the scientific view after experiencing it. It was like i was in another dimension really, but then not at the same time...really weird to describe.
I think i agree Alpha! It's just far too weird. What happened to you? (07-16-2009 04:45 PM)Alpha Wrote: I've seldom had sleep paralysis experiences....usually have them when demons are present. This is what my parents told me who are very logical about such things: I was telling my mum and dad about it yesterday, my dad then told me that Ernie who lives across the road from him has this happen alot. He is a Turkish man who got to know my dad when they moved in the area. I'd say he's about 60 ish yrs old. What he told my dad was pretty much what i experienced, but on top of that he feels some kind of a force entering from the bottom of his feet and then exiting through the top of his head...wow! Now that does sound dodgy. His wife, Jev said it frightens the life out of her when he goes into this state. I've asked dad if he would get Ernie to put his story on the site and then we can all comment on it. Dad, or rather my mum said he'd let dad tell Ernie 'only' if he has another experience as they're worried it might frighten him to know it may be paranormal. ![]() Greyfriars Bobby's Ghost All my life I always wanted to be somebody. RE: My First Sleep Paralysis
Don't mean to interrupt your question Eyepriestess, but that experience must have been so jarring for you. I only had an experience with SP once myself, and it was the pressure on the chest. I don't know much about the inccubus, I always heard that in that case there was an apparition as well.
But as we know, demonic activity doesn't follow rules! I do hope you're okay, and that you're able to at least get some sleep. I know I would have every light in the house on! I hope Alpha comes back to share his experience........................... RE: My First Sleep Paralysis
No I wasn't. I couldn't move at all. It felt like there was a weight on my chest. I could breathe, but with difficulty. I could not move. That was the scariest part. I really could not. I tried to speak but when I opened my mouth, I could feel myself trying to get out the word "Help", and I couldn't do that. I just closed my eyes and prayed. I was young and having a difficult relationship with God at that time in my life, so I'm not even sure who I was praying to................but I just kept focusing on "I must get up". After a bit, (I think it was minutes, but as you know it feels so much longer) I was able to move.............but it was like that feeling of "pins and needles" on the body. I just remember I had a hard time doing anything that day. I felt like I was in some kind of a fog.

RE: My First Sleep Paralysis
Gosh, that is mindboggling that it lasted minutes, someone on my forum said the same thing. Mine only lasted seconds, what you went through was a torture.
Thats weird that you mention a pins and needles sensation as that is what i felt when i induced an astral travel experience. (07-16-2009 06:31 PM)scarygirl67 Wrote: No I wasn't. RE: My First Sleep Paralysis
I never tried astral travel, but I had a roomate in a runaway shelter I was staying in when I split to New York. She was born in a family that was very spiritual and, I don't know, I guess you could call it paganism. I say that, because she said she really was raised to be spiritual without any set religion. Anyway she believed in astral travel. I was skeptical until one night she and I had gone to sleep. I woke up in the night and looked over at her bed. It truly looked like I saw her get up and almost float to the door. I looked at the bed, and she was still there. It shook me, but I wasn't really scared, as I was certainly open to believing it.
I told her the next day, and she said that it was odd that I saw anything, as astral travel really is a spiritual experience, and one of the mind. She said that I was probably more sensitive to seeing spirits than most. (Yeah, I got the memo on that one!) "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."....Galileo We are sorry, but due to the cost of energy the light at the end of the tunnel has now been shut off. RE: My First Sleep Paralysis
I've had sleep paralysis many times in my life and see nothing supernatural about it. When you go into REM sleep, your brain pumps chemicals into your muscles to turn them off because if it didn't, you'd be acting out your dreams, arms and legs flailing around, kicking out the lamp on the nightstand and punching your loved ones in the face. REM sleep only happens in total about 20 minutes a night but it is spread out throughout the night, you'll go into REM for a couple minutes then come back out, twenty or so minutes later you'll go back in again. This is why you'll still see people move around while they're sleeping, they're not in REM sleep. Sleep paralysis happens when you wake up directly from REM sleep. The chemicals that paralyze you are still being pumped through your body and since you're still paralyzed, your brain still assumes you're still sleeping so you may, sometimes, experience an evil pressence or some sort of hollucination in general. It's nothing paranormal.
