I thought I would make a general post today since I've haven't done so in awhile. I'm going to be writing anything that comes to mind so this should be interesting.

There are a lot of different beliefs out there today, so many that I don't think I could count them even if I wanted to. In general many people, (not all) who practice a certain belief will argue that their way is the best or correct belief system to follow. When you think about it how many many conflicts occur because of these differences of opinions?

If we were to look at our history as a whole, we have spent the vast majority of the time fighting amongst ourselves, and when we are not fighting we isolate ourselves from other groups saying or thinking things like "What are wrong with the people over there" or "they are nothing like us".

Now what if there was no correct belief or religion, instead all of them were just very small part of the bigger picture. What if in the big picture there are no differences, instead everyone is equal to everyone else. Think of what might be accomplished if more time was spent on our similarities as a whole rather then our perceived differences Smile

The problem is the belief systems often cloud the truth. A person who believe so much they aren't open to the truth. The same faults are also with a person who disbelieves so much you could never prove it to them. So whats correct? In my opinion .... look for the answers and demand evidence. This means using common sense and critical thinking. Being open to discussions and willing to look at your evidence. This is the method where the answers you have may change and your willing to accept that change. If we can look at exif information and show why a picture has light streaks then we have proven you can't call it paranormal but many people do. I really do not think you will find any or if you do not very many non believers in the paranormal field. It, to them would be a waste of time. So can a skeptic work with a believer? No

Here is an example of believing so much your not open to whats in front of you. According to the story, the apparition may be the spirit of Jane Churm who died in another fire in the town hall in 1677. Now this picture was shown as real and a story created to go with it. We read claims that he had an expert look at the picture and it couldn't be faked. This is all it takes for some people to shut out all other explanations. Later a person discovered a post card that had this girl in it. This shows the picture was faked but the believers claimed its not the same girl. I had a discussion with a lady who claimed to be an investigator for 40 years. She is a believer and also claimed to feel spirits and capture them in pictures. (she wouldn't show me any) So whats your opinion?

I would agree that the girl in the photos are the same, and therefore the original picture is most likely a fake. I would also agree that it it goes both ways too. I myself am a strong believer in the paranormal, although I don't think everything weird that happens of seems to be weird is related to the paranormal. I have some some people in the past that are like you mentioned would refuse to believe even if they had all the proof in the world.

I also think spirituality/religion and modern science are more related then we realize. For example spirituality talks about different planes of existence, while science talks about the possibilities of different dimensions, quantum physics and quantum mechanics. To me they are same, just talked about in different ways.

As for believers and skeptics working together I tend to think they can but it probably wouldn't be the easiest thing in the world to do. It would probably be similar to democrats and republicans agreeing on a budget. It's possible but there will be intense arguing probably along the way at times lol.

Dax, I tend to think much the way that you do in that differing beliefs are smaller parts of a whole that we don't yet comprehend. As far as believers and skeptics working together I see it every day. It isn't such a bad thing, we all have alot to learn from each other and I think it takes a little of both in order to get closer to the truth. I have evolved into a 'skepical believer' over the past few years. Though I still believe and suspect I always will, I now know enough not to get snowed by someone's story, to always do my research, have reasonable evidence and if I can't find an answer on my own...trust me it's a skeptic I run to first! I don't have a problem remaining open minded, even when that means the willingness to accept that sometimes I might be wrong.

But I do not think you can work with a 100% believer, they have their mind made up. The same way you couldn't convince a non believer.

Now check out all the believers comments at the bottom of the page. Its 100% obvious its the same but these so called experts see what they want to see. They ignore the pleats in the blouse, the hat, the facial expressions.Wems ghost

I think that people of differing beliefs can find common ground....BUT (there's always a but), it requires a willingness to listen. Many people are very good at getting their point across, however they don't want to listen to others. And ironically...those are always the first people to complain that no one is listening to them.

When I was much younger, I thought there had to be some real things being photographed. Perhaps not all photos are real, but some could be.

A few decades later, I am very skeptical because we are now living in the age of computers and software like PhotoShop. Some really smooth experts can produce some incredible photos. However, how can one prove it hasn't been produced by using computers and programs like PhotoShop?

I wonder what we have to look forward to in our own time. Ain't technology wonderful? Mrteeth
