Is the Milky Way THAT Crowded?

Interesting article this morning...Carl Sagan always said there were "billions and billions" of worlds out there!

According to this (and a couple of other bits on the web), scientists have said that 50 billion planets are in the Milky Way alone...and apparently five hundred million of them are planets that could sustain life.

I really enjoyed this article. It makes you really think, if there are really that many plants in our galaxy capable of supporting life then I can't even imagine how many life bearing planets there are all together. Not to mention how many of them would be more advanced then us. Much Much Much more enjoyable then the class I'm sitting in now.

Thanks for sharing that link, Scarygirl.

It's amazing to think about the vast amounts of worlds there are beyond our own. It does make you wonder about the possibilties of life -like ours- existing on these planets. And it is scary in the sense that it makes you realise how very small this world of ours is in the grand scheme of it all.

Great article SG and another confirmation for the strong possibility of life on other planets. I never did understand how people of the earth could be so myopic as to think we were the only life form existence in the galaxy.

I believe that we are probably average when it comes to our level of development and technology etc. Maybe a little above or a little below average but close nonetheless. I think there are some life forms much more advanced and others much less advanced out there.
