has anyone ever heard of this creature in Native American mythology? the people i talked about in another thread told me about this bird monster thing in native american mythology. heres a link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasa
apparently, it is said that every 100 years this thing comes, kidnaps six people so it can eat for the next century. it is also said that louis and clark hid with a native american tribe from a large bird-like creature that was chasing them. Neat huh?

When i wake up everything will be all right...

RE: Piasa Bird
That is rather cool!

I find legends very fascinating what else I find cool about them is in there somewhere is actual truth.

As for it coming back every 100 years and taking six people, that has a bit of Jeeper Creeper ring to it as well... cool movie though. Flower Child

RE: Piasa Bird
I'm from Decatur, and I've been through Alton a couple of times. Welcome to the forum!

I agree with Shastar. I wonder if that's where the Jeepers Creepers people had in mind. At least borrowed from it a bit. I know the timeline was different for the creature in that movie. But the concept sounds so creepy.

RE: Piasa Bird
I did a quick look on the Alton webpage, and it is fascinating. The painting is a recreation of a petroglyphic drawing and the name Piasa means "bird that devours men", given by the Illiniwek Native American Tribe.

I saw where the painting on the bluffs was recently restored. I had heard of this, but never actually saw it. If I get back to Alton.............I'll be sure and check this out.

RE: Piasa Bird
Hey DE...I don't know about this bird...but I can tell you that birds have been involved in my experiences. Mostly crows. The first time was when I had dropped off my daughter to the baby sitters to find three crows swirling in a circle in the sky above my van. Later that day...I found that my husband had relapsed...took a taxi to his parents house bleeding from a cut. Why? Because my mother-in-law had shown up unexpectadely and told my husband that his father was dying of cancer. My son was there and heard her say it...but she denied it and it wasn't true. EVIL. Anyway this was two days before our vacation and the vacation was ruined by it. We went to Cocoa Beach....for Thanksgiving and my husband/demon attacked me on Thanksgiving day. I forgive him as I now understand fully about the DEMON.

Anyway DE...the bird is related to the demon...I don't know how. But I saw the bird several times after the fire. Two days after the fire...I saw a dead bird on the road...later that day our dog who was staying at my sister's home ran in the road and got hit. DEATH WANTED SOMETHING....SO OUR DOG MOSES STEPED UP FOR US AND TOOK THE ROLE!!!!!! HE IS NOW OUR GAURDIAN DOG.

DE....I don't know exactly what you believe....but evil surrounds me at this moment in my life...and I am in the process of having it professionally cleansed. I am not at my fullest mind at all right now...and my responces to everyone would be much better if I had my full mind back. I will take this experience to heart and use it to help me help others....that I know. You are a great person on this forum...and we all love you dearly.

RE: Piasa Bird
I missed this when it was first posted for some reason. My very first thought was Jeepers Creepers to! Love those movies. I've never heard of this bird before, I need to check Google and read more about it.
