Xenonormal or Paranormal

With the onslaught of all the paranormal television shows the popularity of paranormal has taken off as well. Things people would of just forgotten about before they are now claiming paranormal. Well as we learn more about the brain and other causes of reported paranormal we find a lot of it should be classified as Xenonormal (this is 'foreign normal' in other words 'the unfamiliar but natural.

Here are some examples of scientific advances that affect paranormal research:

Magnetic ghosts: This is when magnetic fields causes our front temporal lobe to create our own ghost.

Visual substitutions: this is when our mind replaces the unknown with something it thinks it should be. This is natural occuring in our minds.

Misperception: This is when our senses once again our brain takes the information it is receiving and interprets it.

Corner of the eye phenomena - peripheral and night vision that deceive us, its our mind taking explainable things and causing us to interpret it as ghosts, shadows and mists.

Confabulation - This is what causes so many stories and legends, we hear a story and interpret it our way and retell it, it can greatly change as its told over and over as our minds add to it.

Toxin Ghosts: as we are exposed to certain toxins in our daily lives our mind can hallucinate and make us think we are experiencing paranormal.

Prescription Ghosts: Some people react differently to street and prescription drugs and the side effects can make us believe we see ghosts, or god or even aliens.

Sound Ghosts: This can be our mind interpreting natural sounds to think they are paranormal to the low resonance in sound making our mind experience paranormal.

So the next time you experience paranormal, really look at it to make sure its not Xenonormal your experiencing.

When investigating paranormal don't rely on assumptions, base your decisions on evidence.

RE: Xenonormal or Paranormal
So true at times. I've noticed that as well. The more hype there is the more the mind looks for a connection.

RE: Xenonormal or Paranormal
This is a great reference point, UNR. Thank you for reminding us that there are very real and natural causes for things that seem paranormal...and I like the word Xenonormal! (firefox doesn't recognize it as a word though...I keep wanting to correct it! )

The only way to really find out if someone is experiencing something that can't be explained is to first truly try to explain it....**did that make sense?**

"When you feel like a toad on the highway of life... and everyone seems like a steel-belted radial... when you're lyin' there squished in an assortment of bodily fluids... at least you left your mark." ~Arnie Dogan, "The Red Green Show"

RE: Xenonormal or Paranormal
Great thread UNR, like I've said before, even though I totally believe in the paranormal and think anything is possible, I do not believe every unexplained noise is a ghost trying to contact someone, or that every cloud of fog or mist is a ghost.

I believe in some cases that people want to see or hear something so bad that they make themselves believe that it's really paranormal. And, in other cases people just want to get television ratings so bad that they take advantage of all the advances in movie effects!

At the same time, since I do believe, I have no doubt that there's probably already some type of proof out there somewhere. But, it would be impossible to weed out all the fake information and stories to find it. And, on top of that, since so many things can be explained by science, whose to say that "the real thing" hasn't already been explained away?

Just because there are real things that can explain a sound or a sighting, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's not real. But, whose going to believe a ghost is real if there is scientific proof that it could have been something like EMF's?
