The novel is "The Woman in Black" by Susan Hill. The film came out in February 2012 and stars Daniel Radcliffe.

The basic story (per the novel, not the film) is about a man who works as a solicitor for a London law office. Although he doesn't wish to leave his pregnant wife at home alone, he hopes to become a partner in the firm and accepts an assignment none of the partners want to travel to address.

Arthur Kipps is sent to Crythin Gifford to attend the funeral of Mrs. Alice Drablow and to see that her estate papers are all in order. The task should be simple and done with in a few days, but Kipps soon discovers that Drablow's papers are not in good order and Eel Marsh House has a dark secret of its own.

There is a spooky element involving the town children that is represented well in the film. (Though, people who can't bear dying kids probably should avoid the book.) It was a good read and I thought it translated into film rather well for a horror story.

Has anyone else seen the film or read the book? What did you think?

RE: The Woman in Black
I have not read the book, or seen the movie. After seeing an interview on the local news with Daniel Radcliffe, the movie intrigued me. I will be getting it when it comes out on DVD.

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within. ~Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
