Christian theologians, it's enough to suggest the end of days is near. - UglyNRude - 02-10-2011 07:04 AM Do people want to believe in god so much they have distorted thinking? The mass animal die offs are making people around the world saying the end is here. Do they bother to look at the causes? Do they use common sense? The latest is 200 cows dying in Wisconsin. Did they wait to find out its a disease? No RE: Christian theologians, it's enough to suggest the end of days is near. - scarygirl67 - 02-10-2011 08:06 AM The farmer himself said that he believed it was probably infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, a virus that often fatally affects the respiratory system and reproductive organs of cattle. The sad thing is that there are people who will continue to believe these are "signs of the end" rather than the natural progression of us screwing up the ecosystem for centuries. (jmo). RE: Christian theologians, it's enough to suggest the end of days is near. - D B Sweeney - 02-10-2011 08:15 AM From what I've read a great many people can't wait for the end of the world or as they call it 'the end times' and will jump on any sign, however small or however rationally explained, to shore up their beliefs. Birds, crabs, fish and even people* etc die in relatively large numbers all the time and always have done but the world carries on. I don't disagree that mans exploitation of the planet is having harmful effects. I think we're seeing more of these 'mass deaths' simply because we have ever greater access to the news and the ability to both consume and report these events due to the internet. * http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/august/21/newsid_3380000/3380803.stm DB RE: Christian theologians, it's enough to suggest the end of days is near. - scarygirl67 - 02-10-2011 08:42 AM I tend to think that the media likes to distract from other issues that would probably do better for us to pay attention to...(but that's the conspiracy theorist in me rearing her ugly head!) DB RE: Christian theologians, it's enough to suggest the end of days is near. - scarygirl67 - 02-10-2011 02:18 PM That would be another thread for another day, DB...=) But offhand, I would have to say that the fact that we as a human race have plowed through the balance of nature like a bull in a china shop needs to be addressed more often than it is. Lots of questions might have more clear answers. But as far as events like mass die offs being "evidence that the end is near"..well, then the 'end' has been near for a very long time! Knowing that there will be a lot of suffering before hand. I questioned someone about it. Some religions believe they will be taken before the suffering starts, others believe they will go through the suffering. My husbands church believes the later, and preach daily of the Lords soon return. Them look to be some might scary days the way they talk. I would rather not be here when it happens. I agree, more access to world news feeds the flame. RE: Christian theologians, it's enough to suggest the end of days is near. - jeff - 11-04-2011 04:10 AM I can easily understand that many of us have heard about "the end" of the world for so many years now that this sort of news is scoffed at. I spent years listening to many teachers and preachers arguing about how this drama plays out in the real world. I've heard pretty convincing stories from people who believe in "pre, mid, and/or post tribulation rapture of the church." I've never let it bother me much about people who swear they know when the "second coming" of Christ is going to happen. Frankly, I'm a bit astonished by many people around me that can't seem to remember that NO MAN KNOWS the day or the hour of His return. The Bible does say that we can know the "season." Here is something that deserves our honest attention. I believe there are about 7 billion people who are presently living around the world. Many people are starving to death on a daily basis. The world population is out of control. I happened to see an artilce just yesterday that discusses what the world will be like when the population reaches 10 billion. This is going to be rough for the entire world. Anyone in their right mind would rather be anywhere than here when it finally happens. Throw in some natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, tornados, hurricanes, famine and war on a scale as yet unknown, and it is easy to see that the world will be looking for leadership in a new one world government. Crisis' will be affecting everyone's judgement, and compromises will be made for the sake of peace. However, uncertainty breeds fear. Fear swings the door wide open for a "Messiah" who promises to save us all. That is what I call unrealistic. However, scripture clearly indicates that God will hasten His return in order to prevent the end of the world as we know it. Here is some good news. Scripture also makes it clear enough to understand that "the entire world" will not be destroyed because of the predicted "Armageddon" that we've heard so much about. In spite of our best attempts to kill each other around the world, there will be billions of people who survive "the end" of the world..., and God will make sure of that. He has made a few claims of His own, and He will defend His investment in this world. jeff ![]() I just happened to remember something from a movie titled 2001 A Space Oddessy (excuse my spelling). The "monolith" communicated to the Earth that Man can explore and settle anywhere in the universe, except for a particular moon orbiting Jupiter I think. It is named Europa. That moon was already inhabited by some "Higher Power." I could be wrong. It might be the "2010" movie. I can't be sure at the moment. This movie seems to parallel the claim that God makes concerning Israel and His people. I think it would be folly to step on God's toes regarding His claims. ![]() jeff |
