Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - jerseygirl11 - 10-24-2010 11:06 AM Hello, I wanted to share my recent experience, and photos at Eastern State Penitentiary to see what you guys think. This prison is supposedly haunted according to many paranormal investigators. We went during the day on a historical tour on Columbus Day. There was and still is a lot of pain there and you could feel it as soon as you walk in there. I did a lot of research after we scanned our pictures into our computer because I was trying to put the pieces to the puzzle together. The way the prisoners were treated here were barbaric and inhuman and caused many prisoners to go insane. I was never a believer of the paranormal but when we seen our photos when we got home I got the chills all over my body and started shaking all over. I have examined these photos with a lot of my friends and almost all of us seen the same strange apparitions that came out. I have attached the originals that were scanned directly from my camera to the computer, and the close ups. I would really like to know what you guys think. This first picture is Al Capone's room and here we noticed a weird shadow on the right of the chair on the far left corner. Notice the chair has two shadows, one on the left and one on the right. ![]() Look closer, on the right of the chair, we were able to make out a possible apparition of possibly a little girl or woman with brown hair with bangs, and a blue shirt or dress on. She looks like she was hiding behind the chair. No one else was in this room, I had to actually squeeze my hand through an opening at the steel gate to take this picture, as it is blocked off to the public. Al Capone claims he was haunted by the spirit of Jimmy Clark at night, Jimmy Clark was one of the victims of the St. Valentines Day massacre in Chicago. ![]() The next picture was taken at "the hole" we had to go down a flight of stairs to access this place, it kind of looked like a basement and we could not believe prisoners actually stayed here when they behaved badly. There was no light down there for them, and they would get fed only some water and a slice of bread daily and thats if the roaches and rats do not get to them. We noticed something odd here, first of there is an orb above the pump on the lower left hand corner. Then if you look far back on the upper right hand past the yellow/black striped pipe there looks like a face peaking out smiling at us. It looks like a weird off white or tan color, we could see his nose, teeth and eyes. Right next to him on the left there looks like a faint apparition of something with a red/white face and a red nose. .Just the thought of that ghost or demon smiling at us really creeped me out. I remember looking straight back there and seeing nothing there. ![]() The next picture was taken behind a steel gate, we noticed something odd here. If you look far back on the right past the stairway on the left, there looks like a black shadow opening a cell door. ![]() Then we went to the Synagogue, and I have cut myself out of this picture due to privacy reasons, but when we zoomed in above all the faces in the painting, up top were the point is, we seen an image of a demon from hell or something. It looks soo creepy. ![]() We also took a picture outside, zoom in really good on the upper left hand corner were the guard tower is. If you zoom in really good we actually seen a face in the guard tower window on the left. Then look to your right. The sun was clearly out but what was that black shadow hanging out between the opening? We clearly seen a face there of a man. In the guard tower a lot of paranormal activity has been captured there by investigators. I heard one of the paranormal investigators dof went bananas up there, growling for no reason and acting really scared. ![]() Then our last stop was the strangest experience I had there. cut myself out of this picture, there were actually 2 orbs in this photo, one on my stomach and one above me. The one above me has an apparation of a dead clown or something. We can see his eyes, red nose and white looking smile. On his forehead it looks like he has nails going across. This picture was taken before we walked into the visitation room. At the visitation room the strangest thing happened to me. We were the only ones in there (me & my husband) Then all the sudden we felt like a lot of people were staring at us. Then I seen my husband in such a different way, like he was mad and wanted to kill me. My husband is very laid back & down to earth. We never fight. It was so weird. Then I felt this overwhelming sadness and grief like I was at a funeral or something, and I started to cry for no reason. I told my husband that we need to leave this room and we do not belong here. We left and that sadness went away. [img] [/img]The orbs only seemed to come out in my picture and not my husbands. I have more orb photos but would not like to share them because I am in them. I would really like to know what you guys think. I have NEVER seen anything like this in my photos, and I was always a skeptic. Also I wanted to add the second picture I took right away after pic#4 look how strange this second photo came out. Could it have been because of the flash? I was behind a steel gate when I took that picture. I used a Sony Cybershot, sorry but we had the wrong setting on the camera, and the photos came out very big. ![]() Also I was able to get a close up of the guard tower were we seen a sad face on the left of the window, and right next to him on the wall were the opening is there is a black shadow with a face there. I know the quality is poor, we just wanted to really zoom into were the images were. ![]() This other picture is death row. We seen a lot here when we zoomed in.
RE: Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - UglyNRude - 10-24-2010 12:01 PM Ok let start by saying you were in an old place that did have lots of horrible acts take place, but so does every old prison. Now the first picture if you look at the wall behind it you see a wall that is multi shades and colors, now go to what you think is a little girl, you have the shadow from the arm of the chair with the multi colored wall, strictly pareidolia. Now orbs, your in an old dusty place you will catch orbs, its flash reflecting off dust particles close to your lens. I see lots of other paeridolia as well in the tunnel picture. The shadow opening the cell door is the beam of the stairs with the view of the cell door against it so it looks like a shadow. The picture I can't say anything about as I didn't see the picture to see how its laid out. The next to last picture is your flash reflecting off the mesh grate. Do I see anything paranormal? No I see people going into a place that had a poor past, your minds start creating feelings that you should catch paranormal. Normal things create shadows, or all the paint falling off creates patterns, your mind creates what you think you see. RE: Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - Fiona - 10-24-2010 02:02 PM Jerseygirl - Thanks for sharing your pictures and experience at the prison. I bet it was a fascinating visit. Welcome to the forum, as well ![]() I really am no expert at the technical side of photographs, I know UglyNRude (above!) knows the business pretty well. Whether your pictures caught anything or not, I am sure a place like that has it's spirits. RE: Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - lightkeeper - 10-24-2010 02:19 PM Thanks for the photos Jersy Girl & welcome to the forum. RE: Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - WildcatNC - 10-24-2010 02:30 PM I agree with UnR. I dont see anything paranormal in the pics. Most of the time looking at pictures people fall into the Rorschach mentality. Out of all that the only thing that could be something (to me) is the visitation room "experience". It could very well just be your mind or imagination, theres no way to know. You definately shouldn't assume its evidence of any kind. Similar experiences are common with many "medium" type activity. Its how some claim many spirits communicate with you or are "read". Its also thought by some it could be reading the place, rather than a spirit. The "imprint" if you want to call it that. Either would be considered Empathy by type. RE: Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - Reverend Mother - 10-24-2010 05:20 PM I know that "orbs" are not thought to be paranormal, explained away as dust, bugs, whatever. But how do you explain an "orb" that is 6 ft high and 4 ft across ? I know, that's one big dust bunny, right ? RE: Recent photos & experience at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA - UglyNRude - 10-24-2010 05:42 PM (10-24-2010 05:20 PM)Reverend Mother Wrote: I know that "orbs" are not thought to be paranormal, explained away as dust, bugs, whatever. You have to remember photography is 2 dimensional an orb you think is 6 foot high 4 foot across is actually inches from your lens so it only appears to be big. People don't understand the 2d aspect and loose depth perception. The 6 foot orb is just a speck. Here is an example of how your eyes and brain can get confused with 2D pictures. http://photos.travelblog.org/Photos/47542/218543/t/1670964-Trick-photography-0.jpg Strange Eastern State Penitentiary photos taken last night - jerseygirl11 - 10-30-2010 08:02 AM Hello everyone, Thank you for the feedback on the first thread. However last night my friends convinced me to go back to Eastern State after saying no a million times for the haunted house program they have at night. We went in a big group so I was not as scared. It was fun and one of the best haunted houses I have been to in a while. However can someone explain these photos to me. I just scanned them in now. I was taking random photos and have not touched these photos in any way. I used a sony cybershot, and used the low light feature for night time photos. Since it was so dark out there were some spotlights through out the place but they were not colored spotlights or anything like the colors that came out in these pictures. This picture was taken when we were in line by the guard tower. What are those blue lines about? Was that because of the flash? In my other friends camera, the pictures did not come out that way. ![]() Then another random photo. Are those blue orbs or dust orbs? I was told many times that dust orbs are translucent but notice these are not. ![]() We were in line and I looked up at the guard tower and took this picture...ok so it is it us or is that a face up there? Notice the blue lines again. ![]() This was taken in the visitation room. What was that floating thing on the upper right? It looks like a copper color? That was not there when we were there. It does not even look like it belongs to the wall or anything. ![]() Then this was the LAST picture we took last night and it totally left us in shock on our ride back last night. We are still trying to figure this one out. What in the wooorrrllld is this??? I believe I took it before we left the visitation room. I am not sure if I took it long ways or what, or if the picture needs to be flipped. What is that freaky looking thing with possibly a white shirt with no arms??? Keep in mind its cold in Pennsylvania now so everyone had coats on. I thought maybe I took a picture of someone by mistake but it has no arms! ![]() This was taken outside of were the women prisoners stayed at. I noticed by the garbage can on the lower right what looks like a blue orb again. ![]() I would love to know what you guys think about these photos. Happy Halloween! Update: The photo before the last one was a friend. Sorry about that! Will be deleted soon! This is another neat photo. Please correct me if I am wrong but I cant image the camera had something to do with these strange patterns.
RE: Strange Eastern State Penitentiary photos taken last night - UglyNRude - 10-30-2010 08:57 AM All great examples of poor photography, and long exposures. I suggest either taking photgraphy lessons or shooting off a tripod you will eliminate all the movement. By taking a picture just because a flash goes off doesn't mean the shutters have closed. They are in auto mode so they are looking fr more light, when you move any light source leaves traces. Great input, however I do not think it is that serious to the point of taking photography lessons or being rude about it. Lighten up a little bit. Everyone has their right to their own opinion but have some class to it. |
