Discrepancies & Misinterpretations in the Bible?

RE: Anything Misinterpeted in the Bible?
Those are some interesting questions

In the examples I gave there are no contradictions. It is just a case of an "unfortunate" choice of words when translating into English. The word "tempt" in these two passages mean completely different things from one another in the original language. That is what I mean when I say translation problems did in FACT occur as it can be proven easily by anyone with a KJV and a Greek and Hebrew(including Chaldee) lexicon such as Strong's.

I believe that knowing this should be a very positive thing and looking up these words in the original language and comparing can actually give us more confidence in the validity and meaning of the Bible.

I understand what you are saying. Yes there are translation problems as well....and I thank you for pointing that out.

I also meant to post that it was my understanding that when God sent to the flood it was because of the sin of the fallen angels. They had impregnated the women of the earth and giants were born. The flood was the rid the earth of these beings. However, when Moses is bringing the 12 tribes to the promised land...in one of the battles to take over the land they encounter giants. Why is this?

I believe that it was because the flood of Noah didnt actually cover the entire earth and kill everything. (There is a discussion here somewhere with a poll about global flooding) I do believe catastrophic flooding did occur as there are many different "myths and legends" that describe that scenario from all over the world - even among the Hopi here in the US.

Notice that the fallen Angels were/are genetically and anatomically close enough to us that they were able to impregnate human women! Now that would be a discussion in itself! It also ties in with a lot that has been written concerning the Annunaki....

Thanks....that helps clear up that discrepancy for me. Perhaps we should split the thread just for that discussion.

I thnk its fine here as this is just about general Discrepancies & Misinterpretations in the Bible. If you want it split into a seperate topic I will do that though - with no problem.

Hey Dr. I provided proof - an actual example of how problems can be seen because of translation problems. There are many examples of this in the Bible and it takes very little research to find them.

Does that include penguins, squids, jellyfish, polar bears and hump backed whales? Smile

Ok, this is going to sound like a crazy association but here it is; I am a Godzilla fan. Seriously...HUGE fan here. Godzilla along with Anime is best viewed (IMO) with subtitles. An affinity for other languages means I have a basic understanding of Japanese, due in part to my passion for cheesy Japanese films. Many English words, have no translation to Japanese...in their own language our words do not exist in the Japanese vocabulary. I can go to a baseball game and order a hot dog and a beer. It will sound like 'hotto doggo, and beeru."

The finest English scholars were used to translate the bible into it's current English form. Try to remember that again, many of the words we recognize in our vocabulary...do not exist in the most original language versions. In places where the scripture seems sketchy and difficult to understand, they were compensating for the language barriers.

RE: Discrepancies & Misinterpretations in the Bible?
For years I have wanted to get a Bible with the removed chapters/text in it. I have yet to find one. I want a true text, not some modern interpretation. I was raised with the KJV. I feel quite a bit of it is metaphoric.

If anyone has researched what version they feel is most inclusive of the original text, I would love to know what it is?

Genesis 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

So in one passage we had God tempting a man and then in another passage we see that god "neither tempteth he any man".

This s only one example of this, there are many many more

My question is, why would God toy with us? My son told me the story of Abraham. God told him to kill his son to prove his faith then at the last minute told him it was just a test. Excuse me, but God can tell me all day long to kill my son and I would happily end up in hell. Another example of why I have a hard time believing in the Christian version of God. I wouldn't keep a friend like that. Why would I worship someone like that?

- One of the first discrepancies occurs in Genesis when God creates man and woman out of his image....and then later he creates eve from Adam's rib.

- Another one is after Cain kills Abel....he leaves the family and marries...but who does he marry?

- A big one I just found is that after the flood, God states that no one will live past 120 years but we see later in the Bible that people live past that age. It appears to start being 120 around the time Moses dies.

I heard he married Lillith.... ?
