Hello!

I just came back from Tennessee and I was looking through my photos when I noticed this strange ball of light in one of them. I played around with it in PhotoScape and I think I may have seen something within the light, but I'm not any good at it so it could just be my imagination.

The sun wasn't out, in fact the photo was taken just before a storm. I was taking a walk down the mountain. I didn't notice it when I was taking the pictures, because I didn't pay much attention to what the pictures looked like until later. That's the only picture the "light" shows up in. I'm not sure whether or not the flash went off (I had it set to auto).

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas of what this ball of light could be? Someone on another (barely active) forum thought a reflection of the flash with dust. But if that's the case, it's the only piece of dust in my whole collection of photos. Paranormal or not, it's interesting and got my mind wondering..

Feel free to save the image yourself and play around with it if you have any experience, I'd actually appreciate it.

Thanks!

That's a pretty interesting pic, much more defined than I expected it to be. I'm interested to see what other people have to say.
Hi and welcome to the forum! =)

It does appear to be a flash reflection...not sure if it is dust or if an insect happened to be flying by at that moment..but it does make for an interesting effect I agree. Having it set on auto...it may be that the flash went off and appeared on film that way.

I don't have a very good program for viewing exif information on the photo itself...keeps coming up with errors. Exif will tell everything about the camera at the time the photo was taken...but my program isn't cooperating with me at the moment.
Welcome to the forum.
I would tend to agree with ScaryGirl67. It seems like a flash reflection. Did you check out the area around the orb to see if it had any reflective item there like glass or a piece of metal ?
Was your camera on a flash setting ?
I don't have capabilities to zoom in, but if you look on the left side of the road, almost right under the light, it kind of looks like something is reflecting.
The original isn't the original, its been opened and re-named in Microsoft Windows photo gallery this destroys exif information. So based on not having exif information we don't know if a flash was used, but it does look like it. We also don't know the shutter speed which could cause the tail with camera movement on a piece of dust or possibly an insect.
Raindrop maybe. If it was just after a storm it could be off of a raindrop or another reflective surface like a piece of glass or a reflector.
i think it looks TOO defined to be real but thanks for posting! hey what do i know i could be real....
Very cool pic. but probably a reflection.

I agree. Isn't this what is known as a drizzle-orb?

I recall taking lots of photos outside at Bodmin Gaol (on top of other locations) and have had a few of these. The weather was fine drizzle on each occasion (which would explain why it looks like it is shooting upwards...drizzle seems to move in all directions on camera).

Still, if you did have some of the exif data we would be able to discount possibilities a little easier (if you are on Photoscape, some of the exif data is available by pressing the little green button at the top right of the screen).

Thanks for sharing though!
