You would be suprised when I first married my hubby "midwestern yankSmile" we seen how even speaking the same language there is translation and expressions that are different and alot of differences in the way we see cultures and other people. The other day a woman said to me "your accent is beautiful is it Irish? I said no Scottish! Haha then she responded "You speak english so well" How long have you been speaking English??!! I wanted to beat her with my besom!

My Mom still has a very thick British accent, now she is in the retirement home, she is the only Brit. She has always been asked if she is German or Scottish,lol... She says, oh no, i am from Great Britain, then some say, where is that??? lol... She says, have you heard of England?? Then she just laughs it off, as she is used to it.....Then they say, you mean London???? lol....... I have had to translate proper English for my Mom my whole life, so no biggie..... I used to be the litte Welsh girl when i first came to the states, and i remember that well. So, in my 51 years, i have lived in Great Britain, Canada, and now the deep South of the USA. My accent is odd,lol...... and i have learned a lot of slang to fit in over the years.. anyway, off the subject,,, oops!!!! I reakon i had better get back in line,lol...

Also it is not a gibberish, nor is it only between the person and God. Just read the Book of Acts. When they spoke in tongues all the people that were around heard and even though they were from different countries and spoke different languages each could hear words that they understood.

I was at a service once and the preacher started speaking in "tongues" and there was a woman in the pews who understood him. The message was to hear. It was a certain dialect of German that she understood. She said it was the same way that it had been spoken when she lived there as a child. As far as I know no one else in that church knew German and the preacher certainly did not nor did he know anything about this woman. This was a revival and people would come from miles away to attend

I have seen many things like this and although I cannot explain the how and why I do know that these things are true and they absolutely do happen:

Prophecy
"Tongues"
Miracle healings
Demonic deliverance (we never called it an exorcism, but instead a deliverance)

my mom was pentecostal too. she would speak in tongues too. i didn't understand it either. she told me it had something to do with the tower of babal. when god was not please with the people, he made them all speak a different language so they wouldn't understand each other or something like that. maybe you could elaborate on this ct? thanks this is a interesting article!
Speaking in thongs is familiar to me.This is very close to me.I have heard it many times. It is not the point that devil doesn't understand it.The point is to have a unique language that comes from the heart and not from people. And also no matter what your language is you will understand it if you are charismatic or you are into this. The key element is the person who is guided by the holy spirit and God or Jesus to translate it.That person can do that because she got the gift of reading and translating..And all you have these presents you just have to ask for it and explore it.When you are guided by god or Jesus you will understand it.

Blessed be sis and welcome to the Forums. Smile
CareTaker,

I was also raised in a Pentecostal church. I've seen and heard it all before. I asked my maternal grandfather if he had ever be given the gift of "interpretation." You should know that he had many years serving as a missionary. He answered me with a simple "no." Now, I told him about my experience of receiving the interpretation. One evening a message was being spoken (in tounges) by someone in the back of the church. I was caught totally off guard. I understood the meaning of the words as they were being spoken, and as clearly as if someone was speaking English.

The interpreation I had was like nothing else I've ever heard of. It was a profound message, and many I know would never accept it coming from me. I prayed that someone else would deliver the message..., and someone did. There was a woman ministering to the church in song. She spoke nearly word for word what I had received. Man was I thankful.

No, I don't think the language I heard was some other language used in a foreign nation. I am no skeptic. That event was carved into my being, and I'll never forget it. Icontexto-emoticons-10-032x032
