I always thought the ammityville house was so cool looking. That's one of my favorite "Hauntings" stories, even if it is fake (may or may not be, I guess). My friend went to prom with Jay Anson's daughter and we always knew that Jay himself was terrified of the whole thing and really believed it.

I get to see the outside of the house soon! I'm moving back to Saratoga NY this weekend and in a few weeks will be checking out Amityville. My brother knows how to get there, so we're just going to drive by it. Even if it's not haunted, it will still be really cool to see the house.

It is the opinion of some that the Amityville case was a hoax, however there are true case files that back the orignal claims. The church involvement supports the claims as they did occur, not as Hollywood presented the incidents.
This culminated with the legal issues surrounding the demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren has tarnished public opinon of the validity of the case.
For myself it was in fact Amityville that sparked my interest in paranormal research, along with several personal experiences. Without the publicity surrounding the case, I would likely never have heard of it. It is this particular case that influenced many in this field to do the work they are doing today.
I can't in good conscience say the case was a hoax. Nor can I say that it is in fact truth. What I will say is that I believe there was enough documented evidence to prove there was paranormal activity. Hollywood, the media, and a couple of demonologists seeking to further thier carreers embellished the facts to make the case more appealing to the public. In this way they opened doors for financial gain. This in itself is unprofessional and decieving.
I have no doubt that the family in the home truly believes what they experienced. Only they know the whole truth, for the rest of us we may never know the extent of the activity that took place in that home, though something did.
As for the photograph, what I will say is that it likely resembles protographs I reviewed in several other cases, and that the faces that appear in all of them are eerily similar. This photos, at first glance do not appear to be altered in any way, though I would have to see the original photograph to state a personal opinion.
In other words, in all things...it's difficult to form an educated opinion without all the facts.
Thanks to the O/P for the share.

I will have to disagree about being evidence to support Amittyville. The only thing I agree about was the murders which were sad.
The priest involved testified his only involvement was a phone call from the Lutz's
“The Diocese maintains that the story was a false report. In November of 1977, Diocesan attorneys prepared a substantial list, to be submitted to the publisher [of The Amityville Horror], of numerous inaccuracies, factually incorrect references and untrue statements regarding events, persons and occurrences that never happened.”

We also an investigation by Journalist Rick Moran who was amazed at all the stories and even proved a great many as a hoax.

I also recommend seeing where the story got its start from the Lawyer of Butch Defeo who along with the Lutz's made up the story to try and get his client a new case. It was actually the result of many bottles of wine.

"Many bottles of wine"
I think Edgar Allen Poe wrote most of his material under the influenced. Something to be said for inspiration under intoxication. (That sounds like a 'quote' don't it?)
