My new word for the day...paraskevidekatriphobia. I have no idea how to PRONOUNCE it...but I learned it! Icontexto-emoticons-01-032x032 The fear of Friday the 13.

One origin for the Friday the thirteenth superstition refers back to when King Philip IV of France ordered the arrest of the French Knights of the Templar on Friday, October 13, 1307. However, looking through snopes, the day Friday and the number 13 have both been considered unlucky for a multitude of reasons. And of course...there's those unlucky (and dumb) teenagers at Crystal Lake in the Friday the 13 movie franchise.

Any thoughts on Friday the 13 or other superstitions you have heard about its origin?
Didn't realize it was even Friday the 13th. The word is scarier than the actual day.
I've always joked that it is my lucky day...but really I've never seen it be different than any other. I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in France and she said that she rarely sees the number 13. Houses will have 12 bis (or 12 and a half) and then go to fourteen.

Snopes has some good bits about it..both for the day Friday and the number 13 being unlucky. http://www.snopes.com/luck/friday13.asp

You have GOT to wonder who comes up with these names for phobias......(thanks for the Hooked on Phonics lesson, UNR...the next Friday the 13 I shall say it with ease!)
Friday the 13th? How about April the 15th? I find the tax man to be more scary than real ghosts. Blueud
