Jose Arguelles, best known for heading up the massive New Age event in the late eighties known as Harmonic Convergence, passed away on March 23. He has been credited, among other things, for increasing modern interest in the theories surrounding 2012 as the end of the world. He suffered from peritonitis and was 72 years old.
He was a very harsh critic of the Gregorian calender, believing that all of mankind got out of sync when the year was broken up into months of varying amounts of days. His support of using the Mayan calender for getting the human race back on track garnered him both attention and criticism.
Did he stave off the end of the world by getting a bunch of people around the world to hum at the same time almost 25 years ago? Doubtful, just as it is doubtful that the Mayans meant that the world would end in 2012. But if nothing else..he got a lot of people talking about it!
