There is some audio and video footage supposedly depicting genuinely possessed people. I read that even hearing a Demons name or voice could be dangerous to somebody. Is this true or is this just over-reaction to fear?

What I have always heard (and I am not sure about this either) was that if you SAID the demon's name, that could be dangerous. As far as hearing it..no, I hadn't heard that. There is a belief that a seed could be planted when viewing things like this, and that may be what the concern is.
As far as viewing any genuine footage..I would be wary of that. I just don't see a legitimate exorcism or legitimate possession getting filmed for others to see. It would seem that any audio or video footage of this (if it exists) would be done for the purpose of studying and keeping records and would be privately kept.

Very true, Scarygirl, I would assume that most - if not all - genuine footage of exorcisms would be kept private.
I have just heard from my friend that there is some footage of Annalese Michel's exorcism online that is quite harrowing to look at and hear. Have you viewed that? It is that particular footage that I WANT to look at but am nervous of.
Also - and I know this sounds incredibly cheesy and I know it sounds gullible of me, I admit - but there is a bonus feature on the movie "The Last Exorcism" which claims that it contains supposedly true audio taken from an exorcism session.... Now, I know this is all Hollywood and mixed in with lies and amateur dramatics, but as someone who actually believes in demons, I always try to read carefully...I always stay on the side of caution.
By the way -has anyone here watched that special feature documentary on The Last Exorcism? Is it worthwhile?

SG is absoulutely right about documentation. The whole purpose of demology is to study and document activity, though the information is not openly available to the public. This would include any photographic or video evidence as well as interviews, timelines, or summation reports. Once everything is compiled it is turned over to the Archbishop and is more secure than Government records.
As far as the name of a demon, I suggest not to speak a name as it can be inviting. Think about it, someone says your name and you stop and pay attention or respond, don't you? Demons are by invitation only and they will take advantage of the slightest opportunity.
That said though, there is also another power in the speaking of the name of a demon. By knowing and commanding a demon by name with the authority of Jesus, it will flee. Some in the field even think that knowing the name of a demon is neccessary in order to rid it, though I don't share that opinion. Why?
Because demons lie. It might tell you a name, but how would you be sure it was being truthful with you about it's identity? That is the main reason I am so cautionary about Ouija boards. You can never be guaranteed that the spirit you are communicating with is who they present themselves to be.

Dangerous to hear a demons voice? In and of itself, no.
I would say though, that a demon would speak with the intention to create fear, panic and hysteria. That would be the entire motivation behind behind the demon communicating, to gain control. Fear is a major tool of a demon, for fear is lack of faith in God.
Anything to take the focus of God and falter one's faith.

Thanks. That does make sense. I guess the part of me that wants to watch footage and documentaries on possession and exorcism needs to feel safe doing so - while another part of me warns me away. I can never tell whether it's common sense or me being irrational!

Yes I have viewed the footage of Annaliese Michel..some of it anyway. It is horrendous..because in my opinion, Annaliese was not possessed. There was most assuredly something wrong, and she needed attention..but even the Church maintained doubt of an actual demonic possession in this case. The exorcism was done mainly to appease the family, who was said to insist their daughter was possessed rather than suffering from illnesses and malnutrition.
It is sad to see that footage though..because they show a picture of what she looked like before all of this happened. A beautiful intelligent young woman that seemed to have a happy future. Then to see the results of illness gone untreated...it is very disturbing to watch.
And no, I hadn't seen any extra footage of the Last Exorcism..although I did see the movie in the theater. Again..I would be wary of that, as it is something added to get people to buy more copies. (in my opinion).

Fiona, I do not consider myself an expert on Demons. I don't think there is such a person alive today, that is. Upon thinking you are an expert... something comes along that cuts you down at the knees and you find yourself trying to draw from past experiences and guidance from your Spirit Guides on what to do. I have learned to let go of my human ego in this spiritual learning experience. It is very difficult to do that for humans. I have worked with 2 exorcisms, banished a very strong demon from a location where it had attacked me and a group once, and attacked me with only my team once. It was disconcerting to find out from several of my Master Teachers(white light) that this demon was after me in all the times we have run into him. When he cant get to me, he follows what I call a "vein" to someone I love or am friends with. It may go up in Boston or in Western Maryland. It usually happens on the nights he has attempted to disrupt my evening and I have deflected him. In the work that I do, I have run into many evil energies, smaller less powerful Demons. I don't know the names of these smaller less powerful ones, only know the energy that comes in and can get rid of it. The major one is another story. I know who he is, what he is after and it is extremely scary. Thats what he wants. The fear is what makes a white light worker much more vulnerable for attack. In planning with our team, we don't use names as I feel that opens up a direct path to you. Although he knows that we are planning an attack. When we banish, we call out in the prayers, the demons name many times. We plan this when we are all strong and healthy. Any colds, anything physical, emotional or mental weakness at the time, that team member wont participate. There are Master Teachers who participate in this,instruct us as to who is to do what during the spiritual warfare. We have been deceived in communication several times. Thats why we take our time for the spiritual warfare we do. Its planned and almost choreographer out as much as can be done.
Discussion of names will open pathways to you for these evil entities. So will the human company you choose to keep. If someone you know is always having "bad luck"; that is sometimes caused by an evil energy that has found a home with that person.
As an example: I have worked with whole multi- generation families. One such family I am very close to the Grandfather who is in his early 50's. I have found and banashed 3 demons with the Grandfather. It was an ongoing exorcism that lasted on and off for about 3 weeks. I have been told there are 9 with the 1 Daughter (30's), the grandchildren: 3 with the 8 yo, havent got a final count with the 14 yo, and 2 with the 15 yo. Who lives with his grandfather and who I see often. I can see the downwards spiral on this young person. But I can only handle so much. The saying; "the sins of the father are passed to the son...(or daughter..)" seems in my experience to be very true. This family was extremely poor at the level above this grandfather. None of the children in the grandfathers level finished high school. They werent parented and left to fend off all the abuse of the various males in the family on their own. There was much drinking, child abuse and no parental control or direction. There were 13 children at the Grandfathers level. All the generation above this grandfather, The great grandparents, were killed in drunken or drug abuse situations. The grandfather, was an alcoholic until 35, as was his wife. His 2 girls were privy to all this. One girl is now in jail for 18 yrs and has 5 kids from 4 different men, who are also in jail for alcohol and drugs. the younger daughter 31, is going to jail for her third offence in drugs, alcohol, major theft and some other offenses. SHe has lied to everyone. I have been told she has 9 demons with her feeding off her misery and dark energy. I feel there is no hope for this woman. Her children all have started the same path and all have demons with them. The portals were opened by the great grandparents who are now all dead (at relatively early ages) the grandfather I know, who lost his wife at 46, the mothers who are in or going to jail and now the grand chirldern. Its the envoirnment they are in and the negative and evil things they participate in that feeds this evil energy. They dont know how to fight it. And it would be a major effort to fight and then keep it away.

May I ask a couple of questions? If you don't mind, of course?
